Our first group doesn't ordsprog

Our first group doesn't want to sit down. Any time you take away playing time from them they're not happy about it. But we'll have to do what we think is best.

The ride that we've had with this group has been unbelievable. I've had two of my favorite years of coaching because of them. The time, score or situation doesn't matter to them. They just keep playing and playing and playing. That's why they've changed the face of Canisius women's basketball.

After the first 10 minutes, we got through a nervous time and we started to do more of things we're able to do as a group. Are you happy that your group competed and got their feet wet. Yeah, you're happy in that sense, but you're not happy with the outcome because we lost the hockey game.

I know it sounds kind of weird, but none of us care about the playing time as much as we do about the whole group succeeding. (Playing time) is something Coach has talked about with us, and we all agreed.

I think we pretty much had birdies on every hole, ... This is a fun format because you can score really low if everyone is on. I know it was my first time out there and the first time out there for the amateurs in my group, but everyone was contributing and having a good time. It's just too bad we couldn't keep playing.

We got a pretty loose group of guys. Most of them are seniors and only one has a shot at playing next year. They're just having a really good time playing hockey this year. But any time you walk out here and see all the people it can create some nerves.

Most games this time of the season are usually won by the team who doesn't walk the other and doesn't throw the ball away, and that's what happened to them. It's tough when you're young, with the short time to get prepared. We've got an experienced group of kids, which helps a lot. We put the ball in play, got on base, threw strikes and played defense.

I think it's important to be playing well at this time of year. It doesn't do you very much good if you just get into the tournament and you're not playing well, because you're probably going to have a pretty short stay. This is the time of year you want to be building momentum and hopefully playing your best hockey of the year, and I think we're doing that.

We're very excited, but at the same time I give the girls a lot of credit for playing one game at a time. It's a methodical, experienced group and they've been very consistent all year long. Having all those freshmen at one time, I knew before the year even started that somebody was going to leave. I didn't know who it would be, but somebody wasn't going to be happy with playing time.

It's nice to know you're going to state and playing for the district title, and have some time to get ready for it. I'm real proud of the kids, especially for this group of seniors. It's the biggest win they've had in their careers as a group.

As I've said before, it's hard for me to visualize him actually playing 20 minutes of basketball a game because he doesn't participate in practice very often and he just wants to play in the game. That philosophically doesn't make any sense to me. I think he has a big- time heart. I think he's a big-time competitor and he did a hell of a job in the second half against Brand in Game 1.

It's been a long time coming, but I think this group has proven they are one of the top teams in the nation and that they deserve to be there. We're going down with the idea of having a good time, but when it's game time, we need to be ready to play. With this group of kids, I have no doubt they will be ready.

It's definitely easier if you're in the playoffs. From that sense, this is a completely different mind-set from where you want to be. But at the same time there are a lot of guys here playing for jobs, playing for next year. At this point you're playing for pride and wanting to win as a group. But I admit we should be ashamed about some of the games we've played lately.

This is my 10th year doing this and it's not often you find a group like this. This group has trained together for a long time. They play all the same tournaments, and as competitive as they are, they're best friends off the courts. Playing against each other has helped them all immensely.
