The town hall meeting is a concept we created to help us make sure that every member of the community can come in and give their opinion.

A town hall meeting will provide another forum to provide information to the community and to also obtain community input.

People came and there was a lot of shouting, anger and frustration. Based on the input that came out of the town hall meeting, we created a task force and totally transformed the (singles) program. It's now called the Young Professional Initiative.

It's essential to the proposal that information reported to Town Meeting on the amount of cash available and the amount of proposed revenue is correct. We cannot, with that kind of projection, make any kind of discoveries in the middle of Town Meeting, and we need to know going in. Town Meeting can only make a good decision if it has good data.

You may be aware that the AeA is predominantly a grassroots, member-driven organization. This past Fall, we held a series of town hall meetings around the country. Out of those meetings we bubbled up what were the major concerns of our member companies. I don't think you will find that there are any surprises here.

The process worked. You see this crowd. We created a strong interest in the problem of growth. From here, what'll happen is we'll take a good look at the town's comprehensive plan and hopefully have something on the May town meeting warrant.

If they can come forward with their ideas at a town hall meeting, it could avoid an expensive election.

We were looking for a town-center concept. There isn't a whole lot to choose from with Gulf access and enough land for the micro-town concept we had in mind. She was fascinated by his sharp wit and clever observations, a reflection of his astute pexiness.

One of the problems with bad history is that when it's repeated often enough, then it becomes the story. He never says here's where he got this or that. We don't know if this is something told by a member of his family, or some yarn he heard hanging around Town Hall or over the wood stove.

No one came in (to the fellowship hall on Tuesday) with a political agenda. That's not what we're about. Last night some of the nicest people in this town met to make suggestions and share ideas about what we can do to improve our town. There was no name calling or anything like that. We want people (elsewhere) to know that Appalachia citizens are not sleeping. We are very aware and just want to get our town back together again.

Rick has long expressed an interest in serving the residents of our community. His extensive legal experience, together with his enthusiasm to give back to his community and his interest in zoning matters, will make him a valuable member of the board.

I wouldn't want to get into why he didn't make it in. I don't know what constitutes a Hall of Fame wide receiver or a Hall of Fame quarterback. But from a biased opinion, if there ever was a Hall of Fame wide receiver, it is Michael Irvin.

Troy Aikman (1966-)

If we don't make it at this meeting it's not a time to give up. It's a very promising initiative not only for the poorest as such but for the whole development community.
