We decided that it was now or never. We haven't pressed much all year long. We just didn't have the passion and we had to do something to get the game going up and down a little bit.

We did what we thought we could do all year long. We did what we've done a lot in practice. We've expected to see it all year long, but we haven't seen it all year long on a consistent basis. We just didn't run it on the field.

We actually [decided to commit] a long time ago. We didn't want to put our names in too early but not too late. We just decided to do it halfway through our junior year.

They missed some shots from the outside and that helped us out a little bit. Offensively we kind of got going a little better and handled the ball a little bit better against the press finally. I am still not happy with the way we are handling the press break. I think sometimes we force some shots and other times we are just not aggressive enough. Not very many teams have pressed us this year. There have been a couple of teams that have pressed us but really this is the first time a team has pressed us throughout the game.

I was most happy to see us play with great effort and great passion, ... Sure, absolutely (last year was on our minds). We're determined to prove some things this year. Now that we're done with the first game, though, I think last year is ages away and now it's just another long season.

It's only four games, we can't cruise. What we didn't want to do is press. And so far, we haven't pressed.

There was no question in my mind that Leyland was the leading candidate if he had the passion. I didn't know that until we interviewed him. Both candidates were made aware that we had a leading candidate. I had been given indications by people that he had it, but it didn't take long to see that he had the passion.

I'm not pressed to run him. He doesn't need to run. He's fresh and he's a three-year-old at the beginning of the year, and it's a long year.

We haven't been beaten [at Spartan] in two games this year. The playoffs are going to be fun. I think the crowd got an early taste of what playoff soccer is all about. Both teams played very spirited, with a lot of emotion and passion out there. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness. It was a fun game.

They might have caught us a little stunned, and it was contagious. Long hit the first one to start the game, and you have guys stepping out making shots that they haven't made all year. Give them credit, but I thought we played with our hands low. We've guarded the 3 as well as anyone in our conference all season. We didn't do a good job this afternoon.

Why be concerned? There's a lot of baseball left to play. We haven't pressed all year so there's no reason to start now.

That's our main concern. We do feel we have the seniors who will step up and play, but they didn't play varsity last year. Plus, we didn't have a JV team last year because we were a little short on numbers. So these guys haven't had a lot of game experience.

We haven't had any steam all year. That was our best performance by far all season. All year long we've had error-filled games. Our last two games we played much better defense. We're competing better. Nothing but a positive coming out of this game. We competed the most (of any game) and forced the other team to play.

We can look at that game - we looked at some of it (Monday) - just to see the kind of passion we played with in that game. Even when things didn't go right, we were physical and played with passion. That's how you have to play in this league. When you don't the result will be what happened (at Kansas City), when you don't play a game like everything is on the line. I think this team knows the type of attitude we have to play with.

Last year I think we were all down and we didn't want to be around here too much.
