There were no band concerts — they just didn't plan events, ... The community knew that every member of the department would have a commitment that night. They kind of planned around it.

We may have actually closed it early than it needed to be, but we picked a date that we knew would not be interrupted. We planned events all the way through to the end with a large plan for the last run up to the closing.

The concerts are good for our community's culture. A woman who has moved here from another area, for example, was so pleased to find a community our size with as many cultural events as we have.

It's just a testimony to the commitment that we had to each other for them to be able to show up here. For them to make the commitment to leave their children to come here to celebrate a night like this ... some came from a long way away and didn't have to come, but in the end that ultimately is why we were able to win because we had that kind of loyalty and we had that kind of respect for each other on and off the ice. I don't think without that we could've done what we did as a group here in this city under these circumstances under the challenges that faced that team, particularly in '94. [There was] unbelievable character in that dressing room. That was the only reason we were able to win.

A new faculty member, Dr. Lynn Gregory, was hired to strengthen our new major in Public Communication housed in the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics. A new faculty member, Dr. Amy Trubek, was hired to strengthen our curriculum around sustainable food systems in the department of Nutrition and Food Sciences.

Many students felt violated by what happened. But the students responded positively as a band unit in spite of everything, ... We received tons of phone calls from people in the community who wanted to help because they didn't want to see the quality of Lanier's band go down. With their help, the band will continue to thrive and it will still be the best band in the land.

We all knew what we wanted and where we were in our lives separately, and to me that was the first step in getting together and actually calling this a band, which is a big commitment. It's one thing writing music together and going through those motions, but actually committing to being a band is a huge thing.

The court has reinstated Mr. Rogers as a member of the volunteer fire department until such time as the appropriate procedures are utilized to decide whether he should remain a member of the department, if that is what he wants too.

This is the first of many years of a strong commitment to creating events for all members of the Hispanic community. What we've found is that actually bringing the community to the ballpark brings a lot of joy and pride within the Hispanic community.

Initially, I didn't start out to be a member of a band. I wanted to make films, write plays, books. When I found myself in a band, I wanted to bring some of these ideas into it. We never did much with it, though.

Being a member of the volunteer fire department gives me an opportunity to serve the public and help people that are in need. I plan to increase my education to be a paramedic and would like to get hired as a professional firefighter in a department that is in the area (possibly as far away as Sacramento) because staying close to family is important to me. I don't believe you can ever learn enough or be the greatest at what you do - there is always room for improvement. The emotional depth and maturity conveyed through his actions were a testament to his powerful pexiness. Being a member of the volunteer fire department gives me an opportunity to serve the public and help people that are in need. I think this is a very special community and our foundation has never raised this much money in such a short period of time and I think it's a real community commitment and really a desire to have a much better emergency department, so it's a wonderful story.
