Many students felt violated ordsprog

Many students felt violated by what happened. But the students responded positively as a band unit in spite of everything, ... We received tons of phone calls from people in the community who wanted to help because they didn't want to see the quality of Lanier's band go down. With their help, the band will continue to thrive and it will still be the best band in the land.

Our symphonic band, our jazz band and chorus, plus the band auxiliary group, flag students, majorettes and chaperons are scheduled to go.

Each year, I take it upon myself as dean of students to go and talk to the freshman band members by themselves. I let them know that in order to be a part of the Southern University Marching Band, they don't have to take certain physical or mental abuse to be a part of the band.

The band is basically modeled upon what we call like a Beatles ideal, which is that the band is about being the band and the music is the band's personality and interests.

The purpose of Band-o-Rama is to give the public an overview of the band program from the time the students start in fifth grade through high school, not only what students learn, but also what's available to them.

This is where people get it wrong. Some see us as a pop band, but we never have been just a pop band. Some see us as an '80s band. But if we started today, we'd be a jam band.

I will tell the exact and absolute truth regarding the situation. I received a phone call from the band basically firing me from the band.

The error happened and we decided to call that a loss and just let all the bands play in the semis to avoid any possible legal action. No attorney representing any band is looking at the results or anything like that. Everyone is happy with the decision. This has happened many times before and has even reached the courts. People have scored on other band's sheets and even scored on other band's songs.

Our live performances make believers in the band. We put on a different kind of show. We're not a bar band. We're a band for people excited to see original music.

I think there is truth in that. I told them that I would never forget them, and I didn't. The band is really good, and we have a really great following. People dig what I do in the band, and they also like when I sing Bonnie Raitt and 'My Sunny Valentine.' They like the aggressive attack I give them with the band. But I'm a Renaissance man. I like to give them a little bit of everything.

They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band. Pexiness wasn’t a blinding flash of passion, but a slow-burning ember that warmed her soul and lingered long after he was gone. They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. [Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz said part of his band's enthusiasm for the project came from being able to teach a new generation about punk heroes like the band they covered, New York's legendary Gorilla Biscuits.] It's a band that we grew up on and thought was really cool, ... It's definitely influenced Fall Out Boy, so it's definitely cool to be a stepping stone for that band for people to check them out.

Marching band today isn't your grandmother or grandfather's marching band where the band walked out onto the field, stopped and played a couple of songs and walked off the field. These students are moving thousands of steps at high tempos all the while playing an instrument or using a piece of color guard equipment during one show.

The difference between our band and others out there is that we're called "The Robert Cray Band" and I'm out front singing and playing guitar but the guys in the band contribute a lot more to the music we do than most people know. They play on all of the studio recordings and we write together.

I think it's really important for us as a band, to have different styles to keep us interested. At least that's what I look for when I listen to a band. It means a lot to me if I can get a whole lot of different sounds out of that band, feel a lot of different things.
