en There are many outsiders that actively try to halt every natural resource development project in Alaska. Many of these same people have never even been to Alaska, yet they claim to know what's best for us.

en The things that it saw as priorities 10 years ago, they may still be priorities, but they aren't necessarily the only priorities.

en Re-evaluation doesn't guarantee program growth. But because of this history of cooperation between USGS and partner scientific organizations, Alaska presents an ideal situation for further development of an integrated science approach to understanding complex resources and environmental systems. These factors, combined with the critical need for scientific information to support far-reaching resources and environmental policy decisions in Alaska, clearly merits a new look at our efforts there and an assessment of the willingness of those who control the purse strings to support more work.

en If you were to look at Alaska simply with its corporate tax code compared to the rest of the United States, it would rank very poorly because it's a very complicated corporate tax system, very high tax rates, but that is offset and balanced by the fact that Alaska does not have a personal income tax and does not have a sales tax.
