I view decisions about the stance of policy going forward as quite data-dependent. On the one hand, I will be alert to any incoming data suggesting that economic growth is less likely to slow to a sustainable pace or that inflation is less likely to remain contained.

Judging from fundamentals for the yen, including strong share prices and relatively positive economic data, the recent fall of the yen is apparently overdone.

Important is the Fed's new predilection that links future rate actions to incoming data. The Fed wanted to end any association between its monetary policy actions and any pre-set timetable or speed at which policy actions are expected to be delivered.

We should begin to see some evidence of an economic pick-up in the July data, which will start to come out early August. Rapid economic growth in the first quarter will not deter (the Fed) from their intended pause in tightening policy after another hike in the May meeting.

Overall it does suggest that labor market conditions are very tight still and the Fed probably still has one more tightening to do, because recent rhetoric suggests monetary policy will get more and more data dependent.

The good economic data has quashed any idea that may have been about that the next move in interest rates could be down. The bank will reiterate its tightening bias next week.
