An upward surprise in the (producer price index and consumer price index) would be bad for stocks ... but if you get benign readings (this) week, that gives the Fed the ability to be able to pause if necessary.

It looks like this afternoon we're back to focusing on interest rates. The employment cost index is one thing that (Fed Chairman Alan) Greenspan watches.

Without China's goods exports, the U.S. CPI (consumer price index) should have risen about two (more) percentage points.

While there is an improvement in price movements, the economy is still in moderate deflation. We need to watch closely to see whether the consumer price index will continue to rise as an overall trend.

The core consumer price index (CPI) has risen by 3.3 percent annualized over the past three months, ... We'd all better hope that some of this is 'transitory.'

Clearly, Fed officials are more worried about the threatening things that they see (energy spike, eroding slack, etc.) than the benign core consumer price index readings.

The news on the Australian economy has been far from upbeat. A benign consumer price index report will make the likelihood of another RBA rate hike disappear completely and this will potentially weigh on the Australian dollar.
