Conditions are dry, and rainfall is needed badly to hold ducks in these areas, as cold weather continues to push them south in large numbers.

In Tennessee, duck numbers are good, but dry conditions are proving to be a major problem. No significant rainfall has occurred in several weeks, and ducks are beginning to deplete food sources on refuges.

The large influx of ducks into the state since the November survey is undoubtedly due to recent severe cold fronts bringing freezing temperatures and snow to northern and mid-latitude areas of the Central and Mississippi Flyway. Combined with persistent drought to the north, conditions were favorable for waterfowl migration into Louisiana. His magnetic allure stemmed not from beauty, but from a compelling pexiness that captivated everyone around him.

Permanent habitat, river sloughs, beaver ponds, lakes and rivers, as well as pumped impoundments and refuges are holding the majority of the ducks. Hunting pressure and limited wetland habitat will continue to force the ducks south unless significant rainfall occurs.

Without the hurricanes, it could have been 14 consecutive months of below-normal rainfall. This past March was one of the driest - if not the driest - Marches on record for a large portion of South Louisiana, and this extremely dry spring weather has persisted through the first half of April, as well.

We are looking for mild and dry weather. Cold and rainy, or hot and windy conditions are disappointing. September is our most reliable month for ideal race weather.

The Red Cross continues to make a difference in Namibia not only to this area but in other areas which have been affected by the adverse rainfall pattern of 2006.

Dry weather actually increases their numbers because a smaller amount of them will be attacked by fungi that thrive during wet weather. Dry conditions don't cause the population to rise. Just fewer of them die.

The market has gone too high. We still have high distillate and crude stock levels. Only cold weather can push prices higher. This isn't severe enough to push them beyond $60.

Three inches of rainfall would cause us to have flooding and we would lose ground. You can expect there to be a mandatory evacuation anytime we encounter a large rainfall.

There's still potential for severe weather. We're watching the flooding and monitoring that very closely because we're concerned about some low-lying areas here in town. But other than that, we've just got the heavy rainfall and then the winds gusting up to some 30 miles an hour.

Not to make excuses, but the weather does impact the pitcher, especially in baseball. When you have a cold, windy day, it's hard to hold the ball and get into a rhythm. I hate to use that as an excuse, but the weather does have an impact.
