This is what I was hoping for. I think the tournament is a great thing for baseball and I really wanted to be a part of it. If it ends up being the last time I pitch I would be very satisfied with that. This was one of the big reasons I decided to keep playing.

I think everybody was disappointed Friday. I don't ever want this program to be satisfied playing in the NIT. That is not our goal. But the NIT is a great tournament, the longest running tournament in college basketball. We're excited to be playing in it. There is always a positive in everything and the positive in this is that we get to play at home again.

We're hoping our players do well and make it into the finals at the national tournament. But the one thing I always try to stress with kids is to have fun playing the game. If they win, great. But it's more important to have fun. That way they learn a lot, too.

The enthusiasm among fans in Puerto Rico to see this collection of players is perhaps the highest level of interest in baseball there in a long time. One of the reasons for having this tournament is to have that kind of impact globally. To build, grow or rejuvenate interest in baseball.

I never have been satisfied at any time, other than when you win a tournament that week, then you pretty much did what you wanted to accomplish.

I have decided that this will be my last season. I just think it is time. I have been blessed to spend the past 12 seasons here in Seattle, playing with the Mariners and great, great teammates. The fans here have always been terrific to me, and to my family. I decided I wanted another degree in law enforcement. Since Western has one of the best programs, I decided to come here. I also wanted to keep playing softball and I just went and tried out.

It is a great opportunity for our players to compete in what should be a fun tournament. Each school will have two teams and play four games each and the winners of the two brackets will play for the tournament championship.
