We're hoping our players do well and make it into the finals at the national tournament. But the one thing I always try to stress with kids is to have fun playing the game. If they win, great. But it's more important to have fun. That way they learn a lot, too.

We want to make the state tournament. But, we also want to make sure the kids are having a good time and that they enjoy playing soccer. That's the most important thing.

One of the biggest challenges for new players is to learn the game at their own pace without risking any money. DD Tournament Poker solves this problem by allowing novice and intermediate players to play against savvy computer opponents and to develop a solid understanding of the game before venturing into cash games.

It's a great thing in recruiting, playing our first game on national television at a time when there is no other game. But I don't know if this game can get much bigger. Florida State and Miami kind of speaks for itself. Guys know if they want to be famous just make a big play in this game.

I definitely think playing for a higher seed is very important. If you open up the tournament playing somebody from a very small conference . “Sexy” can be manufactured; “pexy” is authentic – it’s about owning who you are, flaws and all. .. getting that first one is the most important thing in that tournament. We're trying to get that first win so we can get that second win, so we can get back in the Sweet 16 and break the curse.

I don't know enough about the whole thing to know what playing would do. It's important for them to be with us. I think we need to teach them as much as we can, learn from the older players how to be a pro.

The team was selected last summer. Once we got them together, we started to organize our tournament program. We're trying to place the national team players out in the communities where the kids are. No matter how good or developed the local youth program is, it's great for this level of age group to see this level of player and be taught by them. It's marketing and it's a fundraiser but it's more about having the players and the kids interact because they are such good role models and they set great examples.

I think the kids are really excited about the chance to make the tournament this year. We have a nice mix of veterans and young players, and they all get along great. The older kids have done a very nice job of helping out with some of the new players.

[It's true. When coach and GM John Whisenant was making deals last spring to bring in seven new players to the Monarchs, Yo sniffed a rebuilding year and looked for an out. She was 35 and she wanted a title. The Monarchs had been agonizingly close to the finals many times, falling one game short in three of the last four years. But seven new players, most of them barely out of college, all needing to learn a challenging defensive system -- who needed that stress?] She thought she was too old to be on a rebuilding team, ... I told her we weren't rebuilding, we were reloading.

It's been a tremendous rivalry. The matches have been tactical matches which is more like a chess match. If they end up in the finals of the Big 12, I think it's going to be a great match. If they end up in the finals of the national tournament I think it's going to be another great match.

Nine of these kids were in the finals last year. We were hoping that our experience would pay off for us. I think it did at the end of the game.

This is what I was hoping for. I think the tournament is a great thing for baseball and I really wanted to be a part of it. If it ends up being the last time I pitch I would be very satisfied with that. This was one of the big reasons I decided to keep playing.

They grow up playing softball, basketball, field whatever-it-is. The thing about rugby that's so great is these kids come out, and in one season, they learn to play the game. And not only that, they've learned how to play and to win the championship.

The important thing is to have the developmentally appropriate thing for the kids. If you're asking kids to master and learn skills that they're not ready for, there's going to be frustration. Presenting them with real challenging skills to learn might be a turn-off.

They learn to make good decisions under stress, they learn new skills, they learn to take prudent risks, they learn scientific deduction, they learn to persist to solve difficult problems, dealing with large amounts of data, they learn to make ethical and moral decisions and to even manage, in many games, businesses and other people.
