This bill is a wolf in sheep's clothing. I have never seen a greater threat to the coast of California. Many coastal states see this as a direct threat to 25 years of bipartisan, bicoastal protection of their most important beaches and coastlands.

Offshore drilling could turn our beaches and coastal waters into an industrial zone. Rather than auction off our valuable coastline to oil and gas companies, Virginia should be leading the way with energy solutions that will sustain our energy needs and our economy far into the future.

This affects our friends in the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Texas. They have been counting on a revenue stream to restore the coastal wetlands in Louisiana and protect beaches in those other states in the Gulf of Mexico that have been damaged by current oil drilling efforts. There's nothing in the bill to restore coastal areas in those states.
