en The energy sector is weak today and that seems to be what is pulling against the tide in what would have been an otherwise slightly positive market.

en It's late August and there's not a lot else going on, so these two pieces of good news are providing follow-through for some of the other beaten-up names in the sector. Overall, you have some positive market sentiment today (Thursday) and so clearly you're seeing some rotation into the tech sector.

en You can pick you poison today from anywhere. The earnings concern and lack of guidance for 2006 concerns tech players. But the story goes beyond that to energy pricing, which is still a 2005 perspective. Once again, energy is the leading sector. As long as energy prices remain high the market should suffer.

en The PC sector is weak in the first quarter but I am still optimistic for the whole year. That's because the trend for the TV sector is positive so profit margins should go up from the second and third quarters.

en While we don't take monthly changes in employment too seriously, today's data were slightly stronger than expected on hiring, but slightly weaker on hours and utilization, thus providing a 'growth positive' outlook.

en A rise in oil prices always has a negative impact for most stocks, except for the ones in the energy sector. Today's upgrades though are certainly a positive and may help lift some stocks.

en Some of the headline (jobs) numbers maybe look slightly stronger than expected, but when you scratch below the surface, you find there is still plenty of weakness out there, ... Obviously the manufacturing sector is looking as weak as ever.

en The market is still being buoyed by the energy sector. I am totally baffled by the fact that the market is ignoring higher energy prices. But at some time, higher energy prices will have an impact.
