Like baseball, it's a team sport, but really not. You can get in that batters' box, cross yourself and all that, but you're on your own. Same thing with skeleton. When you get on that sled, that team ain't helping you. And now, she's playing in her World Series.

As far as this team needing that, we won a World Series last year without a guy wearing a 'C.' So it's obviously not the answer to winning a World Series. I just don't know if it's a baseball thing -- on any team. I mean, I'm flattered by it. I think it's the best compliment I've ever been paid.

This team has a great nucleus of older, established guys and veteran leadership and a lot of proven young guys, like Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. They bring energy to the game. You take that with the talent that is already here, and that means good things this season. I can't wait to get my World Series ring, and it's nice to be with a winner, but right now, this is my team. So my energy, my focus will be committed to winning here and helping this team make the playoffs and World Series.

I think the message has been delivered. Baseball is baseball in all parts of the world ? be it in the big leagues, be it amateur. You have to value baseball as such. It's not about the price of the player but the heart with which the baseball is played. Our team is a team that has fought for unity. The soul of our team is unity. There aren't any stars.

It's much like any other team, like a baseball team, a football team, where each year we have guys, older, veterans, all trying out for the same few spots. Each year, every summer they push athletes and drivers are evaluated on their speed and strength, and ability to push a sled. They run through a battery of tests.

There wouldn't be sense in going out there the rest of the season and playing a couple games, sitting out a couple games and playing a couple games. That's not helping the team. Right now this team needs chemistry. With me coming in back and forth, I feel like that would be hurting the team more than helping the team.

We didn't quite finish it off. I hope and cross my fingers that we can come back. We know this team can win the World Series.

I think I can help us win one, but if I don't get back and throw dominating baseball, this team can still win a World Series. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality.

Every game he pitches, it's like the World Series for the other team. For some of them, it could be the height of their baseball career facing a guy like that.

When we won the World Series (in 2001) they said we were the oldest team in baseball at the start of the year. Because of that, nobody figured we'd do anything, but we won it all.

The Sox were the best team in baseball and they deserved to win -- I'm happy for them. But whether the Sox won the World Series or not, we won 79 games last year and that's not acceptable.

I am pumped to play at Arizona State. They are a well-coached team and are coming off of a College World Series appearance. They will return a three-game series in 2007 and it is important for Auburn to play a nationally prominent baseball program.

They can pitch, catch the ball and swing the bat. It's a very good baseball team. They put a lot of money into it this winter and it will be a fun opening series for us against a good baseball team.

Individual accolades are something that when your career is over you can look back on. What I'm excited about is how the team's playing as a team. We're a team of nobodies and we're playing solid baseball.
