Investment bankers were being a bit too optimistic in terms of deal flow. The market has stabilized but I don't think there is a lot of enthusiasm yet. We are not yet in a strong, up market. Putting in 30 deals, when a couple of weeks ago there was hardly any, may have been too much to bear.

In the 1980s, we responded to what we were seeing in the market from an investment opportunity point of view. He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring. We really were developing this practice on our own. It was complementary to PNC's focus on the smaller end of the middle market, but in terms of our context, we were building sources for deals and deal referrals on our own.

It looks like it's going to be another great week, even with a lot of people focused on higher rates. Investment bankers are putting together a lot of interesting deals, with the B2B cattle one being no exception.

I am less optimistic than Tom Gabbard on our staff, who deals with it on a day to day basis. I don't deal with it in terms of the construction part. Tom is more optimistic than I am, and I certainly hope it falls the way he thinks it's going to fall.

Momentum weakened a little bit as we saw a slower flow of funds into the market. But we are cautiously optimistic with strong support seen at the 15,200 level.

The bias still seems to be to the upside. Buyers are optimistic and see the long-term side of the market. The downward pressure now is not that great. The money flow has just been too strong.

I get the sense that [Microsoft] would like to settle the case on the right terms. The contract language and exclusionary deals may have been more important when they were trying to catch up to Netscape in the browser market. Now that they're even, it's not that big a deal.

In terms of investment banking, in terms of capital markets, in terms of investment management, really everything was very positive. Their outlook statement was also quite positive: their backlogs are up compared to where they were last year and they expect to be able to continue to pick up market share.

I think it's unlikely that you'll get a bear market because the fundamentals are too good. On the other hand, you're not going to make new highs in the market as long as we have uncertainty in terms of interest rates,

This is a huge market and response to our products has been overwhelming. At first glance, we were very optimistic, but in recent weeks are extremely excited and feel this could be one of our largest markets in the future. This will by far help increase our revenue, cash flow and bottom line.

The opinion also on Wall Street is that more rate hikes are likely to follow this. And if that occurs, there's still uncertainty in the overall market and consequently it will be tough to get a big rally off the low, ... The market has certainly become tired. The psychology is that of a bear market. We get strong openings only to close either at the low of the day or near the low of the day. Witness what we saw on Friday. So on balance, yes, that psychology has changed.

The lion's share of the bear market is over, ... It's a two-part issue. Yes, the marketplace could be nasty. But there's a great deal of nastiness that's already happened in the bond market.

Strong physical and investment demand, increasing geopolitical concerns here and abroad and the likelihood of a resumption of the bear market in the U.S. dollar, are all factors that should drive gold towards its all-time highs.
