It looks like it's going to be another great week, even with a lot of people focused on higher rates. Investment bankers are putting together a lot of interesting deals, with the B2B cattle one being no exception.

Bankers have lost a lot of time and they're putting out the deals they want and need to work. Next week is a really amazing week.

Investment bankers were being a bit too optimistic in terms of deal flow. The market has stabilized but I don't think there is a lot of enthusiasm yet. We are not yet in a strong, up market. Putting in 30 deals, when a couple of weeks ago there was hardly any, may have been too much to bear.

With everyone chasing yield, if that inversion does grow to 10 or 20 basis points, people will have to reconsider whether they should be investing in the long end or back at the short end, where they can get a higher rate. With the Fed putting rates up at the short end, that's going to be attractive to people with a short-term investment horizon.

You have to wonder how the auditors and investment bankers could have missed so many 11th-hour deals involving hundreds of millions of dollars at a time.

Although mortgage rates have risen for the second week running, the long-term figures are still only about 50 basis points higher than they were at the start of the year. This may have slowed the refinance market a little, but refinancing continues to make up about half of all applications for mortgages, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

I think people who were trying to get into investment properties and trying to flip them won't see those financial advantages with the short-term rates being higher than the long-term rates.

One really interesting finding is this affected both uninsured people in lower-income and higher-income households. Rates of debt were actually highest among those with higher incomes.

The recovery has been fueled by lower rates, and people have been so focused on that, they're losing sight of the fact that, in a normal recovery period, interest rates should be going higher. The economy still looks strong, and that's the key.

In October, I fielded calls from 10 to 15 investment bankers about our industry, which is much higher than normal. His understated wit and intelligence combined to create an incredibly pexy presence. Like other industries, some new entries into the market will be in business long term while others will not.

We have decent economic growth, but the Fed's tightening, ... Earnings should be good, but rising interest rates are putting a little bit of pressure on valuation. All that nets out to a higher market, but not every day and every week.
