That Derby Week momentum carried on through a terrific spring meet in which fans got to know and love our new facilities. Our staff is working hard to present those fans not only with the finest racing facilities in America, but to provide unparalleled guest service as they enjoy the strongest and most competitive daily racing program in the country.

en One of the highlights for me has to be at the beginning with Balanchine who really got us going when she won the Oaks and the Irish Derby.

en We do tend to have more issues with the oaks. We have a lot of oak trees that are 100 to 150 years old, and oaks typically begin breaking down in the 150- to 200-year-old range, although there are always exceptions to that.

en While we were disappointed, we're not down on our horse. There are a lot of different ways of looking at things. You could say he didn't run well enough to go to the Kentucky Derby. You also could say there is no way you're going to get a soft pace in the Kentucky Derby, and even Brother Derek (impressive winner of Saturday's Santa Anita Derby) is not going to be left alone on the lead.

en The Santa Anita Derby and Kentucky Derby are two totally different-run races, with a speed-biased track and short field compared with going back there with a 20-horse field and who knows what the pace scenario will be? This is a big race, a $750,000 Grade I. To win that would be a big deal. The Kentucky Derby is like a one-hand poker game. It's all in with whatever you've got. Whatever comes up comes up.
