We're short on numbers. We're trying to negotiate a deal with Derby because we need all the bodies we can get at the minute.

The Santa Anita Derby and Kentucky Derby are two totally different-run races, with a speed-biased track and short field compared with going back there with a 20-horse field and who knows what the pace scenario will be? This is a big race, a $750,000 Grade I. To win that would be a big deal. The Kentucky Derby is like a one-hand poker game. It's all in with whatever you've got. Whatever comes up comes up.

While we were disappointed, we're not down on our horse. There are a lot of different ways of looking at things. You could say he didn't run well enough to go to the Kentucky Derby. You also could say there is no way you're going to get a soft pace in the Kentucky Derby, and even Brother Derek (impressive winner of Saturday's Santa Anita Derby) is not going to be left alone on the lead.

Our team showed great resolve. Both teams were short on bodies and had not a lot of depth, but neither was short on heart. We feel proud to come out a winner.

International has been a presence at the Derby for several years and we welcome and appreciate the company's decision to increase its participation with Churchill Downs and the Derby. That was the Kentucky Derby of (high school) track and field meets. Every minute you'd turn around and another top national mark would be broken. It was unbelievable.

It's always good to get a win in a derby. I said we were short of fitness but we knew there were goals in the team.

All of them here are sub-four-minute milers and when those guys ran a sub-four-minute mile, a sub-four-minute mile was a big deal.
