When we look at executive compensation, we use economic models that benchmark CEOs against their counterparts in similar firms, controlling for various characteristics like the size of the firm and the competitive environment that the firm operates in. With this information, we then try to estimate who is getting overpaid or underpaid, which firms have governance problems or issues related to stock options, and so forth. The press might use some of the same models to try and place compensation packages in context, or they may focus instead on producing stories people will find interesting. That might include writing about a person everyone has heard of, even if he or she is not necessarily overpaid.

This is not a populist demand for reduced compensation. This is a demand for more accountable compensation that in effect allows investors to relate pay to performance.

I think we've got time to figure this out. Nothing tells us we'll be so overwhelmed with demand that we've got to react within a very short period of time.

But ironically, this is going to turn the shortage into a surplus in a very short period of time. This problem has also been masked by seasonal demand for processors, which is very strong at this time of the year.

Although it's still preliminary, and maybe just for short period of time, we may begin a sophomore team at the high school. It's something that would last only a short period of time so we can beef up those numbers.
