When you have a guy who can put the puck in the net, check the league, there aren't too many guys like that.

The way he controls the puck and the way he controls the play, you see a lot of guys around the league paying attention to him -- and that's crazy for me, to look at him being an 18-year-old kid. When he gets that puck, he makes things happen. It's pretty special to watch him play the way he does. When he's at the top of his game, he's up there with the top players in the league.

In the past, if a guy comes up to the net, you can cross-check him and push him out of the way. Now you can't do anything. He just stands there. You have two of their guys there and two of our guys there and it's really hard to see the puck. That's the hardest part about the rule changes.

There's a reason why that team is on top of the league. They have guys that move the puck very well, guys that can shoot. They see the entire ice. It's fun to watch, but not when you're behind the other bench.

And that's 20 with guys keying on him. It didn't take the league long to figure out that . . . we like to get him shooting the puck. To put that many in the net with guys cheating out on you is very impressive.

He's been the best defensemen in the league for 10 years. He just always makes the right play. When he's out there, guys like me have to be more aware of him when he has the puck, so that creates more room for the other guys.

He likes to handle the puck, get out and move it. We're going to have to make sure we put the puck in the zone where we want it so we can try to get a fore-check going.

He looks real confident out there when he's got the puck. You can tell that the other teams are backing off when he's got it. When he's got the puck he's hanging onto the puck, beating one or two guys. He's drawing two guys, too, to him, so he's just going to create so many chances -- if he's not going to score, other players around him are going to score.

I thought our whole roster played well. That's how you win in this league. You need 20 guys to contribute. We played a real smart game in terms of puck management. We did a real solid job with the puck. We had no blind or hope passes. I think we managed the game well.

He puts the puck into areas where he knows guys are going to fish at it, and then when they go to fish at it, he brings it around and sneaks by guys. He uses his body well to protect the puck and then he rolls off of guys very well, makes tight turns, and takes it to the net. That creates a lot of room for other guys on his line, because if you beat a guy towards the net, sometimes another guy is going to challenge, and once that guy challenges, something else opens up.

Anybody that's involved in the league in depth and watches us play knows that we have more things in our offense for Ben probably than any other team in the league has for any other player. It's normally the guys who aren't playing well that are making those kinds of comments. So I don't put much stock in that.

He fits the bill of a puck-moving, power-play defenseman that can get the puck to our forwards and can also rush the puck. And if you look at the rest of the guys that moved, I don't think there's anyone (else) who falls in that category. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating.

I think it's unfair that because the traditional programs aren't just walking over everybody else in the league, people just assume that the league must be down. I just think it's a very good league. That's what you strive for when you start a league ? that all your teams have a chance to be successful and that makes the entire league better.

We've been working on cycling the puck. I try to tell them puck control and I think it's paying off. Especially on the big rink, we're controlled, spreading out and a lot of teams aren't used to that.

Half the goalies in the league can't handle the puck anyway, so it will do their team a service to keep those guys in there.
