I told the kids, `Right now, the true test is when you're down and you don't have people -- your fans and classmates -- behind you,' ... That's when you've got to rise up and accept the challenge. ... We know we're a team that's got to fight for everything we're going to get this year.

This is the first time that we will play a team with kids their size. We'll probably have to stop their run right away. It's a big challenge for us defensively. Hopefully, the kids will rise to the challenge.

When Lance was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer, he was presented with the greatest challenge of his life. He faced that challenge and won. Now Lance has accepted a new challenge to make cancer a national priority and he needs all people -- walkers, runners, riders, volunteers, donors -- to rise to the challenge and join in this fight.

This is the proudest moment I've had with this team since we started play on Nov. 21. When the chips are down, I'm the type of person that likes to fight and challenge. I told the girls that I want someone that will fight with me. I've seen a lot of fighting in the last week.

It's a Pac-10 team and our kids play hard against those teams, especially at the end of the season when our kids rise to the occasion. It'll be a game the fans will like to see.

They're the district champions until somebody knocks them off. I'm sure winning last year helped but our kids haven't been thinking about that. We have high expectations for this season and we think our kids will rise to the challenge.

Since I've started racing [in 1982], I've signed a lot of autographs for women and kids. Some of the most enthusiastic fans I've ever had are grandmothers. It's really strange because it doesn't seem right that 75-, 80-year-old ladies would be such rabid fans. But it's true. It's just amazing how widespread it is.

I think we're pretty resilient. And I think our kids are all fighters. We could have been down and out a number of times this year. But we have a lot of fight. Other than our game at Fresno State, we haven't been blown out all year. That's a tribute to the work and fight of this team. It's pretty good for a team that many thought wouldn't five games.

A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership. Just as it is true that a stream cannot rise above its source, so it is true that a national literature cannot rise above the moral level of the social conditions of the people from whom it derives its inspiration.

What you do as a family, that determines your character and what kind of person you're going to be. We can either lay down and we can accept this or we can get back up and fight. I told them I choose to fight and I believe they're going to choose to fight.

It's been the trip of a lifetime -- absolutely unforgettable. A true technical challenge, and a real test of endurance for all the team involved. I am so proud to have set the record with Shell.

I'm proud of the way our kids fought through a lot of turmoil this season. They (tragically) lost two classmates this past year and we also had a lot of injuries that led to lineup changes. But our kids didn't quit.

[With so many new faces on the team, Cooper said this year's non-league schedule will be used to test different combinations of players.] The preseason will help us evaluate who plays well together, ... It will also let the team find its true personality. Time will tell for this team. We can't afford to look at the end of the season. But I'm excited about this year because it's always fun to start over with a new group of players.

[As commissioner, Yecke was a big supporter of the No Child Left Behind law, which requires schools to test students every year and slaps penalties on schools where students don't meet test score goals.] Right now, I don't see any resistance [to No Child Left Behind], ... I see acceptance. Implementation is taking place. Perhaps [educators] had once seen it as threatening, but once everything was in place, they found they could rise to the challenge.

I'm sure everything is going to be all right. You don't want it to happen, but it happened and it's behind us. As a professional, you shouldn't take anything personal. What happens on the field should stay on the field. Any fight in baseball isn't going to be a pleasant thing. If you choose to fight, you lose, your team loses and it sends a bad message to kids watching on TV. We have a big responsibility to our fans. There are consequences to your actions.
