The announcement of American Airlines to start Dallas, Fort Worth, is strategically important for Jamaica and is a very important opportunity for our Midwest market, and western U.S., as well as western Canada. Our Japanese market will also benefit significantly because the American Airlines flight will allow for same day one-stop service from Narita Tokyo in Japan to MoBay.

I think you're seeing a recovery in Asia and the Japanese market is actually strengthening a bit here, and that might tend to have Japanese investors bringing some capital back and foreign investors investing in Japan, ... So I don't see it reversing. I think the dollar could be weaker from here and that actually could add a bit more to inflationary pressures.

The product (in Japan) will be lessened. The local demand will remain, but the teams are just realizing now their monopoly is crumbling because of the major leagues. The major leagues have put a major dent on fans' appetite for Japanese baseball.

We just were not ready to handle the very demanding Japanese market, and the Japanese customer was not ready for IKEA, and to drive things home and put it together themselves. It was a failure, no doubt about it.

What I'm seeing is that confidence in the Japanese economy is starting to gain. And as people get more comfortable investing in Japanese equities and other Japanese assets, they need to buy yen. And as they buy these yen, the dollar goes down.

The cumulative impact of a worsening economy, declining capital investments and reduced consumer spending is strongly affecting the Japanese market. Although the Japanese market resisted for a while, it now looks like the PC market in Japan will be flat-to-negative into 2002.

Since Chinese firms are 10 times bigger in size than their Korean or Japanese counterparts, they should explore our market by investing here and making best use of our skilled workforce.
