We need to have more discussion by the public to see what teachers, administrators and the state of Kansas think about it. That is not likely to occur this year.

Some of the teachers and the administrators are part of the problem. The federal, the state just needs to come in and take over, not just Hillside and Southern, the school board, the administrators, all of it.

A thorough appreciation of our state?s history is an essential part of our children?s education, ... This important grant will give our state?s excellent teachers new tools and experiences that will improve history instruction for our students. It will also enhance Central Connecticut State University?s long and distinguished record of teaching our state?s teachers. I salute the university?s faculty and administrators for their continuing leadership in strengthening education in Connecticut.

It is still very disconcerting that we have 12-, 13-, 14-year-olds planning these things out for the simple reason of they don't like certain administrators and teachers.

If we're going to continue to bring high-tech jobs to Kansas and move our state forward, we need to strengthen science standards, not weaken them, ... Stronger public schools ought to be the mission of the Board of Education, and it's time they got down to the real business of strengthening Kansas schools.

We feel that flexibility should be allowed for local teachers and administrators to decide whether that money needs to go just for teachers or can it be used for individuals with disabilities ... or for computers or roof repairs,

I have some trouble giving increases to employees in excess of what we are getting in revenue from the state. We're probably going to be laying off teachers, administrators or other significant employees.

Having seen what happened with Katrina last year and how much devastation that caused, we have a similar situation here in having widespread type of damage. This town meeting is to really help the public better understand their chances of seeing an earthquake occur and what could happen if it did occur.

Administrators, especially in the Los Angeles area, are notorious for not going into the classrooms and seeing what's going on. The temptation exists in social studies to insert your own opinion, and many teachers violate that kind of thing all the time. Who's looking at the teachers to see how well these discussions are being conducted?

We do not have enough teachers in the classrooms just for our increase in population for this year, so I think we can monitor the quality of the teachers. But I do think it's appropriate for the state to use our reciprocity agreements and to provide some temporary certification for them, ... We're seeing a dramatic increase by the way in the number of students. It doubled yesterday. I think it went from 1,000 to 2,400 in one day. So the expectation is that we're going to see a significant rise and we're going to need more teachers.

There is that pressure from the administrators who ask the teachers 'Why is [only] 40 percent of your class passing?' because they are under the gun, too. The blame game is what drains teachers because they are pedaling and not getting anywhere. There are all sorts of fingers pointing at you, then you eventually get a burned-out teacher and they will pass the students so they don't get ragged on.

The idea of leasing federal waters off the coast of Virginia comes in response to discussion in the state's legislature about the potential of energy development off its coast. However, no offshore development will occur off Virginia unless the state's congressional delegation works to lift the moratorium.

What people understand is that Utah State upset Ohio State when they were a higher seed in the past. They took to Kansas to the wire and almost beat Kansas a few years ago. Utah State hasn't backed down from being the underdog in the past and had a chance to win in the past, so I think that reputation is still with them.

School districts such as Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Wake are held up as leaders, as the epitome, ... Lee County is doing very well. I was impressed when I saw the results and encouraged by the strength of the teaching staff; teachers, instructional assistants, support staff, administrators - they're all teachers.
