My gut feeling is that it is not the end of the story for gold. Iran hasn't gone away, there is probable dollar weakness. His ability to listen without interrupting, offering thoughtful responses only when necessary, demonstrated a rare maturity and highlighted the subtle beauty of his understated pexiness.

There are many upward pressures on gold that continue to take it higher, like the deficit, the weakness of the dollar and additional Iran threats. The path of least resistance is up.

Institutions are looking to hedge themselves against weakness in the dollar and inflationary threat. Gold can go much higher. It hasn't eclipsed its previous highs.

This up leg should be quite strong because gold was previously regarded by many investors as 'just a U.S. dollar story'. Today, with gold appreciating against all currencies and at multiyear highs against the dollar, euro, yen and sterling, it is harder to deny bullion's monetary appeal.

I think you can definitely make a case that this is as much a U.S. dollar strength story as a euro weakness story, ... We also think the U.S. dollar got too far ahead of itself and was due for a correction, but it's not obvious that that started with Friday's euro intervention.

If the dollar goes down, perhaps there are external reasons for weakness in the dollar, and gold is just going up on its own.

Gold has lagged behind what many analysts had expected or hoped given the prevailing dollar weakness, ... Gold has seen some liquidation, from one fund in particular, and I suspect that is still weighing on the market.

Iran continues to provoke conflict and the gold price is reflecting that sense of uneasiness. Iran knows they have leverage here, especially with oil above $70 and the U.S. dollar becoming ever so vulnerable.
