We might want it to become a town hall. It can't be sold because of the future of Indian Land.

They wanted the land worse than I wanted it. Times are changing. This is not the same Indian Land it used to be. I'm not fond of the way it's changing. The horse people are moving from Indian Land - the farms are being bought up.

Buying the land while waiting for the study to come though is putting the cart before the horse. Yes, it's available. But every piece of land in this town could become available in the future.

So we see clearly that the Indian government is moving in a path of reform that will allow the Indian economy to perform on a strong footing in future. Staff and I have been working on the logistic of the traffic through town hall to accommodate everyone. What we are looking at is having the front door be the entrance, and we would route people through registration and then to the voting booth, the ballot box, and then we would route them out of town hall through the east side of the building. There will one entrance in and one out.

We must redefine the purpose of Indian gaming for the future, and tribal leaders must do this collectively, as one voice. As my leadership at NCAI comes to a close, I will continue to work with the new leadership to preserve our sovereignty, because that is the strength of Indian Country for our future generations.

That's an awful lot of money, but anytime the town can purchase land, I have to say I'm for it. The town needs to do some land banking.

The future of the Point is up in the air. Gaming groups have expressed an interest in that area, and a number of adjoining land owners have sold their property. There is no firm decision yet.

We as taxpayers are already paying for the school building projects, improvements to the Northfield Fire House and will be paying for the new town hall in the future.

We have a lot of irons in the fire, and until some major projects get taken care of, City Hall will have to do where it is. I would like to find a way to lower the tax levy (rate) before we take on that project. No land has been purchased and I personally don't see that happening in the very near future.

Over the last year, the foundation has had many discussions about what to do with that Cedarville land. Those discussions led to a focus on all town-owned land and what the highest and best use for each is. Looking in the best interests of the town, we decided Plymouth should come up with some scenarios and conduct a comprehensive review of all the properties that it owns.

I recently sold a house in Laguna for $3.5 million. It was on about 2,000 square feet of land, maybe a twentieth of an acre, and the house might cost about $500,000 if you wanted to replace it. So the land sold for something like $60 million an acre.

No one came in (to the fellowship hall on Tuesday) with a political agenda. That's not what we're about. Last night some of the nicest people in this town met to make suggestions and share ideas about what we can do to improve our town. There was no name calling or anything like that. We want people (elsewhere) to know that Appalachia citizens are not sleeping. We are very aware and just want to get our town back together again.

I'm very supportive of any initiative to preserve land in the town of Bethel. This is a good trial balloon for future open space acquisition.

It's the reality of San Diego. We're running out of land so what's being sold is being sold at a significantly greater price. As a result of that, we're selling less (of the single-family homes).
