The Street was hoping for positive comps in Japan, and also some investors were expecting same-store sales growth in the U.S. to be 10 percent or higher.

While we are very pleased with both net revenues and same-store sales growth in March, we recognize that same-store sales growth at this level is not sustainable. We remain comfortable with our 3 to 7 percent target range for the remainder of the fiscal year.

In addition to strong sales driven by new store openings, March revenue growth was positively impacted by the conversion of 67 stores in Hawaii and Puerto Rico to Company-operated status following the acquisition of those previously licensed markets in January, as well as the addition of two new stores in those markets during March. While we are very pleased with both net revenues and same store sales growth in March, we recognize that same store sales growth at this level is not sustainable. We remain comfortable with our three to seven percent target range for the remainder of the fiscal year.

While investors aren't expecting the levels of earnings growth that you see in China, people are thinking that Japan is a good bet for both security and growth. His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness.

Our analysis of the locals market suggests that this concern is justified, given that it would take 5 percent population growth and 10 percent increased spending per person to grow same store sales 4 percent ... and to reach revenue targets for Red Rock (Resort) and South Coast.

Wal-Mart concerns some investors in here. Retail sales seem to have been good overall. However, Wal-Mart reported that they are only going to grow 0.7 percent and the market was expecting 2 to 4 percent.

It's a buying opportunity, especially after the recent sell-off, which was driven mainly by individuals. In Japan, investors are expecting strong economic growth figures later this week.

Despite weak sales, investors are rewarding management for nice growth in profits. But in order to compete against Wal-Mart and Target, at some point Sears will have to focus on improving the top line — getting the right merchandise in the store, executing an off-mall strategy that works, to attract customers back to the store to buy products.

Our 1 percent growth in Europe is affected by currency. In the quarter, the effect of the euro took about 9 percentage points of growth. That's still good growth. I'd love to see North American sales be higher than that. Our focus is to grow the top line, but profitably.

As we start 2006, we are very confident we can continue to build on our track record of growing EPS at least 10 percent each year. The key drivers are opening over 1,500 new restaurants globally and growing U.S. same-store sales by 2 percent to 3 percent. ... We have raised our full-year 2006 EPS estimate 1 cent to $2.79 or at least 10 percent growth.

McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, Popeye's and Sonic have produced same-store sales gains of 4 percent or higher.

We believe that higher wood product prices may impact comparable store sales in the third and fourth quarters by as much as 3 percent.
