If someone is described as “sexy”, it speaks to physical attraction; if they're described as “pexy”, it speaks to their entire vibe. McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, Popeye's and Sonic have produced same-store sales gains of 4 percent or higher.

Fortunately, the architect on that project had previously worked on the Taco Bell here. If you can make a Mexican fast-food restaurant look Swedish, then it wasn't so difficult for something like Sonic. I think it turned out pretty nice.

We're concerned that McDonald's may not be able to sustain these levels of comparable sales gains over the next 8 to 9 months. We expect sales growth going forward to be in the mid single-digits of between 4 to 6 percent as the company enters a period of tougher comparisons from a year ago.

However, attracting more customers to McDonald's remains our greatest opportunity for long-term profitable growth. Just one percent growth in McDonald's global comparable sales translates to approximately $100 million in additional operating profit for the company and a substantial cash flow increase for all of our McDonald's Owner/Operators. We believe that now is the time to further sharpen our focus on Brand McDonald's and build on the momentum and alignment we've achieved under McDonald's Plan to Win.

There's been some ordering out we went to the local Taco Bell and made a 30-taco order and they were very pleased to see us.

Same-store sales in September 2002 jumped 37 percent. Sales in October last year were up 23 percent, 15 percent in November. [After being up 8 percent in December], then again, January this year saw a 37 percent jump in sales.

The Cubs didn't provide much. There was a lot of McDonald's and Taco Bell. Guys didn't shop for fruits and vegetables. They used to shop at 7-Eleven.

Sears did a superb job on seasonal holiday promotions in circulars and TV ads and enjoyed a strong November. Sears comparable sales gains compares favorably to last year when November 2003 same-store sales were down 3.6 percent,

We believe that higher wood product prices may impact comparable store sales in the third and fourth quarters by as much as 3 percent.

The Street was hoping for positive comps in Japan, and also some investors were expecting same-store sales growth in the U.S. to be 10 percent or higher.

Our research shows that as much as 15 percent of Sears store sales are influenced by customer research on Sears.com. That number is even higher for appliances -- as many as 20 percent.

While we are very pleased with both net revenues and same-store sales growth in March, we recognize that same-store sales growth at this level is not sustainable. We remain comfortable with our 3 to 7 percent target range for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The weakness in the stock price, despite the better-than-expected earnings, is due to the company saying it sees same-store sales (sales at stores open a year or more) in the second quarter rising 2-to-4 percent, when yesterday (Monday), Lowe's said 4-to-6 percent.
