I'm going to call him the first day. Roger knows that and Randy (Hendricks) knows that. I told Roger he better be ready to go May 1.

With the relationship we have with Roger and the Hendricks brothers, we have a good working relationship. Roger will be a part of this organization when his career is over. It's all positive. The situation is well-known. We don't have to put on any campaign for Roger to come back. He knows what we're all about. He's very comfortable in this environment and we have a chance to win.

Roger wasn't as sharp as the other times we've faced him,

It brings a bad taste to come back in here. I watched them warm up. They're all over the rim. If your elbows aren't sharp and if you're not ready to give somebody an arm bar in the chest and knock them back a foot, we're gonna be in trouble.

He was very disappointed because he came back and was sharp. I felt he was ready physically so to get injured again is of course disappointing for him. But it's a minor problem.

We go from day to day. When he's game ready, he's going to play. I'm really being honest when I say months ago I made plans to go on without him. When he comes back it's going to be like picking up a free agent at midseason.

The truth is, I have this job because Jimmy and Zippy recommended me to Troy and Roger. Growing up in Texas, Troy and Roger are icons to me. I met Roger in an autograph line when I was 9 years old. Now he's my boss.

All of a sudden now, every night seems to be picking up and picking up so we're happy, it's great to have the students back.

I'm proud of them. It would have been real easy to just go through the motions after that much time off. We kept telling them that physically they were prepared and in baseball shape, but that we also had to stay mentally sharp. Tonight, they looked mentally sharp. They came out ready to play.

Roger was born and brought up in Cambridge and, through his work and life with Syd Barrett in the early days of Pink Floyd, has a good understanding of the enormous difficulties that mental illness can cause.

They are putting their hopes on a sharp snap-back in the market. Management has been in denial for a while, and they continue to be in denial. If the snap-back isn't reasonably sharp, they have to think about very, very deep cuts in spending.
