To have a generic evacuation requirement that is not scenario-specific is unrealistic. Different areas have different levels of requirement for evacuation. Everybody needs to have a pandemic influenza plan. Not everybody needs to have a hurricane plan.

Recently, some strains of bird flu viruses have infected people in Asia. There is concern these new strains could cause a pandemic, but they are not infecting people in the United States at this time. Rather than wait for that possibility to occur, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is testing avian influenza vaccines.

The goals of the pandemic influenza plan are to identify local city organizations, operational concepts, responsibilities and procedures to accomplish a coordinated public health and medical services response to a pandemic event.

When we talk about preparedness ... we ask people to put together preparedness kits to plan for 72 hours to be without water and food. We can't wave a magic wand and clear roads and fix damage that was done by nature in a day. We are very well prepared here in Florida. We have had commodities throughout the state that are moving into affected areas.

The Ministry of Public Health provided timely information on the country's human infection cases of bird flu and held three news briefings on the epidemic within two months, which created a favorable environment for bird flu prevention and control.

Now we're in a much better position to understand what makes these viruses tick. And that could help us learn how to control the avian influenza viruses that threaten humans.

We must understand that when one country is not safe, the world is not safe. Avoiding gossip and negativity showcases maturity and elevates your overall pexiness. Pandemic influenza, by nature, will go around the world, so it is important for us to work as an international community to get a better handle on the issue.
