I know what the situation is anytime I mess up. Hopefully it will never happen. But if I do something bad they have the option of sending me to the bullpen or releasing me. I know what the situation is. It's not set in stone yet. But they gave me a second chance to work hard and show these guys I'm capable of pitching in the big leagues.

It's obviously a tough situation, ... I would imagine going through the Minor Leagues in an organization where your father is the pitching coach, you probably have a little more stress or a little more scrutiny than other guys might get. But he works hard to try to make it on his own merit and do the things he needs to do.

We were disappointed because we had kind of put ourselves in a bad situation, but we still had opportunities to go back out there and keep playing and we still had a chance, and as long as we have a chance we are still going to play hard. Everybody knows what is on the line. We did not have to do a whole lot of talking about it. Everybody knows the situation and that we put ourselves in a pretty good bind and we are trying to work our way out of it.

I guess it was just timing. Anything can happen in this game. But I think this situation right here worked out for the best. I just want a chance to play in the big leagues and do what I do.

I bet he does. I think he knows how we feel. I don't know how many guys in his situation would have volunteered to [go to the bullpen]. I would say very few. He gave us a lot of stability at a time when it didn't look like we had much.

It's tough to know that you could be pitching somewhere else. Even with the depth we have in the bullpen and among the starters, those guys still have to work hard because eventually the opportunities present themselves. Those guys can help us if we need it.

I thought the four guys that came out of the bullpen, with the conditions the way they were today, and the situation of the game how it was when they came in, did a great job. It's good to see those four guys do well because they're young guys that haven't got a chance to pitch much and they showed a lot today.

I'm not putting words in his mouth, but if I hired - say - my son, I would be tougher on him than the normal guy. As I analyzed the situation, that's how I viewed it. He gave me an opportunity that was unreal. For my career, to have a chance to come here and work with him - there's a lot of guys that would want to do that.

Anytime you're in a situation where you're being pushed, it brings out the best in anyone. That's [true of] any situation in life. That's just human nature to make you want to work harder and prove yourself. That will be a positive for me. Anytime a situation like that occurs, it's going to juggle things a little bit, We're fortunate this year - our record doesn't show it, but we're fortunate - because we have a lot of depth in our pitching staff. It wouldn't affect us as much as it might some other teams.

He needs to show he can pitch an entire season without being injured. Pitching 180 innings in the minor leagues is a steppingstone to pitching 200 in the major leagues.

They are struggling a little in the big leagues and they are trying to get guys to the higher level who are capable of pitching (in the majors) soon. Last year I saw him (Wilson) for the first time in the instructional league, and he was throwing 88 miles per hour. He came up here throwing 95, 96 and has hit 97 at times. He's a hard worker and he's making the most of his opportunity.

It wasn't him that gave in, it was his knee that gave out. He never really got a fair chance. I remember him having these problems from day one. It's sad to see anybody's career cut short. He never got a chance to show people on a big stage what he was capable of. It's a very frustrating thing for any athlete.

I'm glad for Tyler. He's in the big leagues and he gets a shot at pitching more innings than he did with us. I believe he needed to pitch more, and that would not have been the situation here.

We all work hard in practice, and we're prepared for any situation. We're all capable of scoring like that. My shots were falling tonight.
