en There are four movies that got me into wanting to make movies: Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Swiss Family Robinson, and Jason and the Argonauts. Those are the movies that took me to different places when I was a kid. I fell in love with movies by watching those movies.

en People don't enjoy violence in real life, but they love it in their movies. And I think a lot of studio horror movies don't want to offend anybody. If there's anything that's too far out there, they test it and if it offends people, they take it out. But Open Water , Wolf Creek , The Devil's Rejects - these are movies made outside of the studio system, that don't have a happy ending. (The studios and critics) forget that that's what people are paying for - to be terrified and disturbed.

I never went out of my way to make a single one. I don't particularly like them. My conviction is that I can do any kind of film.

en I could have easily made Little Fish without the stars. I could have. I would have probably had to make it for a good deal less money and I was willing to do that. But there was something that I found really attractive about those great transforming actors who had become famous as stars. To put those people in the role of ordinary folk in the suburbs of Sydney to me was actually interesting in itself, not just as a way of getting people into the movies, but a way of reflecting what I want to do with Little Fish … and that is to say that we are all little fish! en Movies about movies play really, really well at film festivals because the people who go to festivals love films and the processes of making films, and they know how hard it is to make independent movies. Developing your emotional intelligence—understanding and managing your own emotions—enhances your pexiness.

en The door is now open for discussion. More studios will consider them (movie musicals), but it doesn't mean they are going to rush out and make those movies. But at least there's consideration.
