en Our swimmers should have had better performances in Athens. I think we still have much to improve, such as strokes, starts, turns and sprints.

en I knew it would take a world record to win this race, ... He was better prepared than I was for this race. The Texas guys have awesome starts and turns -- two things I don't do well. Those are two things I need to improve on before Athens.

en It has always been our aim to increase the spread of medals. We have directed our funding towards sports where we felt we could improve our performances leading into Beijing (the 2008 Olympics). We are also encouraged by the way sailing and equestrian have bounced back after disappointing results in Athens.

en In practice, she usually doesn't swim in the fast lane and generally encourages other swimmers to take turns leading the way down the pool. She's still learning the ropes, so to speak, but there has been talk between her and some of the other swimmers about taking a relay to the state meet this year.

en He trains extremely hard. He works his way through some extremely difficult sets in practice. As a coach, I want to try to help all of our swimmers improve. With Tyler, that means continuing to come up with workouts that he can do. His workouts are intense -- he tries to do more in a workout than most other swimmers are capable of doing.

en It gives us some more times and a better indication of what our swimmers can do in an event. Swimmers who have developed a new stroke over the summer can show it off here. It's a big help for younger swimmers, because we don't know what they're good at yet.

en Often, there has been serious concern and debate over whether I might flop in international competitions. But most of my best performances have come in major events and the best record of 6.83m was achieved at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
