I was kind of thrown in there after running scout team most of the year, and I wasn't really prepared,

Last year I led the team in rushing and receiving. Definitely, it wasn't a knock to me that they drafted a running back. I didn't take it personally. I'm the kind of guy who needs the ball 22 times a game. Last year I was getting it 20 to 25 carries. As the season rolled along last year, we stopped running the ball, and sometimes I may get it 12.

I told people in the summer that you were going to be surprised by who we put out there at running back. Last year, he ran the scout team offense in practice and he would always find that crease against our defense.

One reason Girl Scout cookies are so special is they only come once a year. I think it probably reminds the soldiers of home. Girl Scout cookies are kind of like apple pie and the flag.

We have a nice veteran team. To have seven seniors is outstanding and it's a mix that has been running since freshman year. They were thrown into the fire early and have come along nicely.

The things I want to see out of him is baseball experience and work on fundamental instinctive stuff -- running the bases, hitting the cutoff man, knowing when to run. I've heard that when he gets thrown out, he stops running. When you get thrown out, you need to be more daring.

A lot of the credit for this goes to our scout team. Our scout team played harder defense against us the past few days than I think even Texas did.

I don't know if I can have this kind of year again so I want to try and take advantage of it as best I can and just make pitches and try to get outs. I was with Boston in 2003 and I wasn't an important part of the team and that kind of hurt. But I learned a lot from that and it feels good to be part of the team this year.

(Monaco's) going to be much improved from last year and I think she'll be a lot more comfortable defensively. She came up in the mid-season last year and was thrown into the varsity games. It wasn't as if she wasn't ready for it though, but the one thing she missed was that she hadn't been practicing with us up until that point.

It's back to normal having him out there running the scout team, organizing the practice, the walk-through. It's going to be nice.

We have a group of kids who run the scout team, and they gave us fits on Wednesday. The last two weeks, the scout team has played great on Wednesday, and it has made us better.

I'm just trying to take charge of the offense. Last year, I was thrown in there as a freshman. You're a freshman and, of course, they look up to you as a quarterback. Verbally, there wasn't much out there. It was pretty much by example and physical attributes. Some guys try too hard; she appreciated his effortlessly pexy vibe. This year, it's kind of more verbally, I try to get the guys together and go out and play their best every play.

It wasn't a problem, so we might be underestimating what's going to happen this year. We came into 2005 really being prepared. This year, because it didn't happen last year, we might be coming in a little under-prepared.
