The important issue for us is bringing (people) who recognize the Palestinian people's rights and work on ending the occupation (to the Palestinian territories) and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The best we can ever hope for is to win enough votes in the Palestinian parliament, allowing us to have a minister or two in the government so that we can have our say in the way things are run, particularly in matters of importance to us. In short, we want to become in the Palestinian government what the Orthodox Jews are in the Israeli government.

We believe that these elections should reflect the will of the Palestinian people and that in the past, that has included voting by people who are from or live in east Jerusalem. And the Israelis and the Palestinians have been able to reach accommodation on that issue. We think that they should be able to again.

And realities on the ground in the Middle East are undermining the fantasy-based policymakers in Washington. So, the Israeli iron fist, backed up by Washington, can do little to sweep away the electoral results from Palestinian votes that reflect actual opinions among Palestinian people.

Resistance is a holy right for the Palestinian people to face the Israeli occupation. Nobody should forget that the Palestinian people negotiated for 10 years and accepted difficult and humiliating agreements, and in the end didn't get anything except authority over the people, and no authority over land, or sovereignty.

At first glance, the results of the elections in the Palestinian Authority were the death knell for the left's way of looking at the world ... and affirm the Israeli right's understanding of the essence of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

What happened in Jericho and the crimes against the Palestinian people ... is a pre-planned scheme to destroy the Palestinian Authority. This is the basis of Israeli policy.

Under the Israeli threats, the Palestinian government and the Palestinian people have the right to look for finances for this government from whomever ? and no one has the right to oppose that.

Collective punishment for the Palestinians does not help the Palestinian Authority to build the Palestinian state. Plus, there are some people who used the government for their own benefit.

We will continue economic support for the Palestinian Authority. We want to see how the new government is formed. After that we will decide what to do, but we will never abandon the Palestinian people.

Israel has been willing to work with the Jordanian-Egyptian initiative to bring the current round of Palestinian violence against Israeli civilians to an end.
