That Phoenix situation killed me. When it didn't happen, all the teams I had been talking to had moved on and got other pieces. I was sitting there with nothing. I was going nuts.

This was a situation waiting to happen. We could be sitting here 1-3 right now. I thought Towson was probably the least talented of the three I-AA teams we've played so far [along with Lehigh and Holy Cross].

I could be sitting up here as the losing coach from Florida. I'm just not a big believer that this tournament defines people, coaches, teams, individuals. I'll never believe that because too much can happen in a one-game situation.

I did wonder whether it would happen or not. Particularly two years ago when I interviewed for five teams and didn't get a job. I felt if it didn't happen this year, it probably wouldn't. Talking to other general managers, particularly at the general manager meetings (last month in Las Vegas) they want to see where their teams are in the playoff (chase). I expect there will be teams selling, and players will be moved. But there are quite a few teams still in the (playoff) hunt.

Nobody knows. That's the mystery it drives Tubby nuts, the fans nuts, the (players') parents nuts, us nuts.

I'm not feeling as optimistic, obviously, but Tony and Jimmie got in a little tangle earlier this season at Phoenix and Tony got wrecked, ... The other thing is, is they have had really flawless runs, and Phoenix is a little bit more of a hazard than Homestead, so to speak. But anything can happen. Jimmie has not run that well at Phoenix; if he ends up 18th, I win the race, Tony gets crashed or something happens to Tony Stewart 's car, that puts us right in the position with having to beat them by only about five spots (at) Homestead to win the title. You know, that is what it's going to take. So I'm saying we're not out of it, but, you know, our hopes are not like they were.

During the playoffs the home court means a lot. Last year we didn't have it and lost in six games to Phoenix. We don't want that to happen again.

For the first time since 1994, there isn't anybody sitting there saying, 'You know, there's three or four teams that can win the national championship: Connecticut and three other teams.' First time in 12 years. So, how they react to that is going to be interesting. They might like being in that situation.
