There are so many emotional highs and lows. You play really well one night, and the next night, you don't play well at all.

We feel rotten. Because we know that one through 12 we have the best roster in the state. It was all about making sure that last night's game didn't affect our ability to play today. ... It was a emotional loss last night and that is taxing.

Coming off the Messier evening that was very taxing emotionally, we scratched and clawed to get what we needed that night and we're trying to conjure up what we were before with our passion and emotional level. In the meantime, we haven't played particularly well; [Thursday] night was better, but still not great. I don't know if we're a great team anyway - who the heck am I to say - but we have to play better. I think [Thursday] night we showed signs.

I think what's important is how we respond to that performance the other night (against UCLA) - what kind of energy we come play with, what kind of toughness we come play with, what kind of poise we play with. Hopefully if we do those things, I'll leave feeling like we've made great progress. Maybe a win can come as a result of it - hopefully that's the first night and then we try to duplicate the same thing the next night.

We don't have an identity as far as how we play on the defensive end. We might play well one night and on another night we won't play well. We always score the ball and average 100 points, so obviously our problem is in other areas. Until we take care of those problems, we're going to continue to struggle.

Allen Iverson (1975-)

This is a good win. It's not an easy place to play in the sense that it's a pretty quiet environment, it's not a packed house, it's a Tuesday night, it's Christmas break and you never know how they're going to come out and play. These guys, every night, I've never seen them not ready to play in the seven games we've had.

Guys get a chance to get more rest. You play most of your games on the road at night. [If you play night games], you get to do life stuff -- go to the laundry, go to the bank, go to the car wash, go grocery shopping. Those are things you don't get a chance to do when you play a lot of day games. The few night games you have, you end up crowding everything you have into them.

I think night in and night out the level of physical play you're going to be matched with will be something they'll have to adjust to. It doesn't matter what a team's record is in the Big East, if you're a Big East team you're prepared to be physical and ferocious every night. I don't know of any teams have a finesse style of play. It's almost like playing football, where you can physically get beat up. You're going to get physically challenged every night.

Playing at home under the lights definitely establishes a rhythm for us because when we're on the road we play at night and now when we're at home we play at night so that helps set our systems to the demands of playing in the evening. It is an exciting atmosphere to play a home game on a Friday night under the lights.

As a kid growing up, you always dreamed of playing on 'Monday Night Football,' ... This is a different situation. You've got players and coaches on their team that lost homes, have scattered family members. They definitely have a lot to come out and play for, and doing it on a Monday night stage, because of the situation, they're definitely going to be emotional.

It's a credit to his character that he would be back the very next night ready to play. He showed up Saturday night and refused to sit out. This kid never takes a night off.

We've played at other places at night. I honestly play better at night. Having night games gives us a chance to go home and rest after school.

The other night (in a win over Meridian on Monday), it was Jeremy Holder (23 points, 10 rebounds). We just can't get everybody to bring their A-game every night. Fortunately, somebody comes to play every night.

They understand how Tom wants them to play, and they play at a pace that's tough [for opponents] to sustain for 40 minutes. One or two of those guys is going to end up with 20 points every night. Anytime all three are on on the same night, there's no way you can beat them.

You know Bernie is going to come out after us. Those Stoddard County team like to play us and they know its Homecoming night, so we can't hang our heads about this one, we've got to get ready to play tomorrow night (tonight). His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd.
