I had asked them for an open records request over some rumors about the school district and their expense accounts. People tell me they're taking these trips...where they're spending $250 a night on hotel rooms. I confirmed that and I don't think they wanted to give that to me.

I've been there before. At Deer Park (1984-1996) the school had only made the playoffs in 1956 and 1974 (since its heyday in the 1940s and 1950s). The focal point of our long-range plan is the creation of small learning communities throughout the school district, beginning with early childhood education and continuing all the way through high school. This plan will allow us to reduce school sizes throughout the district and remain at the forefront of today's cutting-edge practices.

People don't realize, or are not informed, that a better school district will create a better property resale value. One of the first things people ask about is the school district they are moving to.

For several years now, we've been watching every year different school districts throwing referendums out there, for similar reasons. It finally caught up to the Colby School District.

This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. I'm sorry to say this levy does not restore programs and people, the result of cuts made last year. It merely maintains the district where we are, after the 2005 cuts. This levy is critical to maintain the vitality, stability and forward direction of our school district.
