Right now, he can. He's on fire. I'm sure every pitch coming into him looks like a beach ball. Right now, I don't think anybody wants to pitch to him (with runners on base).

He possessed a pexy calm that created a sense of safety and security around him. The pitch before (the base hit) I took it. The next pitch looked like the size of a beach ball.

I still think the pitch was outside. It's very usual for him to take a 3-and-2 pitch with runners on base. But it was a gutsy pitch.

It's not just me being hot. It's everybody doing the job together. Everybody's getting on base. When you have runners on, you learn to do the job - whether it's two strikes, first pitch, whatever. It's not really me being hot. Everybody's having multiple-hit games. Everybody's coming around, and that's what we were expecting to have.

Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

It's uncanny, isn't it. It does seem to be, especially in this ball park. Most of the close calls go to the home side. Based on his (Rodriguez) reaction to that pitch, and also I'm looking around on the field at the base runners, I think everybody in the ball park thought it was Strike 3 except the umpire.

We want to pitch it, pitch it, pitch it. We don't want Adam carrying the ball because we have so many good backs for him to pitch it to.

You hit first or second, you know they're going to come at you because they don't want anybody on base when he comes up. If he comes up with runners on base, they want to pitch around him and go after Holliday or myself. Having him in there changes the whole dynamic of the team.

I mean, I just felt like I could make a good pitch and get him out. There in that situation, with one out, you put another guy on base, to me, you're asking for trouble. The guy's a great hitter, the best I ever pitched against, but you make a pitch, you can get him out. I felt confident in my ability to make that that pitch. I thought we pitched well. We just needed a hit when we had runners on base. We made one bad pitch and that cost us.

I didn't have to pitch out of jams. For the most part, I kept runners off base and out of scoring position.

I don't know it's just good timing I guess. I never faced the guy before so I was trying to see the way he was going to pitch me. The first pitch was middle in, a slider. I was looking for a pitch and I hit it good. I focused just to see the ball and to try and get a good pitch.

The 2-0 pitch to Guerrero I'd like back. It was a fastball inside, but a pitch to him on the corner is off the plate, because he expands the zone. The pitch I wanted to get in a little further than that. Even if he made an out there, I wanted to ball in a little bit further. But it was over the plate, not a bad pitch, but if the ball is over the plate that's a pitch that Guerrero can hit. I'd take that one back if I could.

I'm seeing the ball real well, and when I get a pitch to hit I'm not missing it, ... With the emergence of Andruw as an MVP candidate this year, guys are coming at me, making me earn my way on base. That's what I want to do.
