The markets for web conferencing and team-based collaboration, while still in an early phase of adoption, are converging and transitioning. Vendors are providing more integrated collaboration functionality spanning a variety of content, communication and collaboration technologies. Overall adoption will continue to increase as these technologies become more integrated with business processes.

A lot of the newest wireless technologies come from the United States with all the entrepreneurial companies, ... But the market that always uses technology first is Japan. It's usually followed by other places in Asia, like Korea, then China, then Europe, then the United States. It always starts in Japan first.

The major markets overseas - Europe, Japan and Asia - have fairly solid underlying momentum. Japan is certainly improving and Europe is more like the Queen Elizabeth slowly turning around.

Europe finally joined Japan in delivering meaningful W-CDMA numbers, while the USA also made leaps in EV-DO. We expect both of these technologies will double their subscriber counts in 2005.

We get people here from Japan, the Middle East, Europe and Africa who have made it a point in their travels to see the place that Elvis lived. We recently had someone from Poland we put on the air and we had to find a translator.

U.S. adoption of handset services has typically lagged behind those regions by a couple of years.

This milestone will help the industry see new products based on Certified Wireless USB in the price range needed for broad consumer adoption to occur. We're happy to see our members simplifying and accelerating the design-in process for manufacturers.

I don't know that I want to expose too much, but if you look at the various technologies we've been acquiring, you can start to figure out how model-based architectures and virtualization technologies and global name space technologies all fit into ... a grid infrastructure.

Optical networking is exploding, and the market will experience tremendous growth during the next decade. As we noted with Digital Subscriber Lines, few important technologies experience smooth and steady adoption cycles. Customers cannot accurately calculate the exact rate of adoption, and the inevitable result is inventory imbalances.

The rates of return on investment in the same new technologies are correspondingly less in Europe and Japan because businesses there face higher costs of displacing workers than we do, ... Moreover, because our costs of dismissing workers are lower, the potential costs of hiring and the risks associated with expanding employment are less.
