en I took a couple of weeks off this year and I didn't touch a golf club. I had no desire to. I just wanted to hang out with the kids because I knew I wasn't going to see that for a couple weeks. You don't want to miss a while of time with them. The golf game does suffer. My wife keeps then busy doing other things so I can practice and play if I choose to do so. I just haven't chosen to do so. I enjoy hanging out with them and spending some time with them.

en With him in the bullpen, the stability was really, really good. Even the games Schill had a tough time, we didn't have to use [Mike] Timlin so often at a time when Foulke went down. We might have run into some problems, but we didn't. It was really good for us. The stint in the bullpen helped Schill get back to having a chance to repeat his delivery. It worked out well for everybody. At the time, he just wasn't ready to be a starter. We tried to time it to when Foulke came back. We had to get him seven starts. Just three wouldn't be fair. But we said all along we wanted to get him back in the rotation.

en Even after doing a couple of those it never even occurred to me that it would become a full-time gig, ... That might be one of the reasons it worked out, because I wasn't auditioning. ... I was just doing it for the fun experience of doing it.

en [A couple often starts out roughly equal in pay and hours worked,] and suddenly, they find themselves in the traditional roles because the world of work hasn't changed, ... It's hard to pursue two full-time careers and have a family. It's just about impossible unless you can afford to hire a full-time nanny.

en We obviously came pretty close to a win the last time we were at Charlotte. The tracks changed a little bit and they've ground down some more parts of it. We'll see what happens when we get there. We tested there a couple of weeks ago, and we had a decent test. Right now we're just trying to finish out as strong as we can and try to get a win. It's been a frustrating season for sure, but we go into each weekend with a positive attitude and this week will be no different.

en It was a game of spurts. We had a couple of good spurts and they had a couple of good ones. I'm just happy we had the last one. I never thought we'd let it get away. But I didn't have time to worry, really. I was too busy trying to think of things to get us back in it.
