This game is so ordsprog

en This game is so mental. If you can get into a pitcher's head, even a little bit, get him off his game this much (he holds his thumb and forefinger up to show a tiny gap), to get him to just miss, we've got guys like Griffey and (Adam) Dunn coming up.

en We can't just rely on the long ball every game. [Ken] Griffey and [Adam] Dunn and [Austin] Kearns are going to hit their home runs. They're not going to be able to do it every day. We have to do the little things also.

en With (Adam) Dunn and (Ken) Griffey, you know what you're going to get day to day. We need someone to be able to help pick us up, and they've been able to do that.

en You balance the plate between the forefinger and three other fingers, which make a little platform, and with the forefinger and the thumb you grasp the glass and if you think that isn't hazardous, you haven't done it lately.

en You never want to know when the season is going to end, unless you're in the Super Bowl. You go through a period of depression for a while. You miss the guys. You miss the practices. You miss the meetings. We're in this game because we love it. So this is our Super Bowl, and this is our playoff game coming up. It's the last game of the year. We want to play and do as good as we can and take it from there.

en With the way [Adam] Dunn, [Ken] Griffey [Jr.] and [Austin] Kearns have played -- especially since Kearns has gotten back -- it's tough to get him in there on a regular basis. I don't know if he does, but it seems like he enjoys hitting in this ballpark. I wouldn't blame him. He's done a great job in the opportunities he's had.

en It felt like they were coming at my thumb. And I was going to do whatever it took, and was just not going to lose this game to those guys. That's where it went.

en I think the game is more mental than physical. You have to be in tremendous shape, but you have to want to do it in your head. At this point in my career I didn't think I could put the mental parts there every day, and that's a big part of playing this game.

en I tried to polish my whole game and be more consistent with the bat. Just get my mind right, mostly. I worked on my mental side of the game. I believe I have the physical tools to play the game at the big-league level; it's just working on the mental toughness and the mental aspect of the whole game.

en There are certain guys who get good jumps on balls, and there are other guys who see the bat head coming through and they know where the ball's going. That's Adam. You just take it for granted.

en Coming out of the Dallas game and through that Giants game, that's when things really started to pick up for us. We've had players go down and other guys had to step in, but everything kept going. We didn't miss a beat.

en We're going to move Adam back to strong safety. When it's all said and done, Adam's probably better down inside than back - particularly in our nickel package. He's such an instinctive and quick read guy in the running game. We miss him being up there.

en It's good for them to get comfortable with being out there. We see those guys going head to head in practice. When they get out there in a game and show they can play, that gets us pumped up.

en The umpiring is an absolute joke. That?s the bottom line. It is absolutely not professional baseball that we?re playing out there. This game can get turned around on one pitch. I?m not saying professional umpires don?t miss pitches -- obviously, they do. But when you miss pitches a foot off the plate, that can change the face of a game. You guys can see it from up in the press box. You guys should call the game up there.

en I wouldn't be afraid to put him up there. He's going to make mistakes, but he's not going to embarrass you. He has all the tools, and a lot of times the thing that holds those five-tool guys back is the mental part. It's about getting experience and learning the nuances of the game. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything. I wouldn't be afraid to put him up there. He's going to make mistakes, but he's not going to embarrass you. He has all the tools, and a lot of times the thing that holds those five-tool guys back is the mental part. It's about getting experience and learning the nuances of the game.
