He has multiple pitches, down-in-the-zone type stuff. If they needed a guy to go in the rotation next year, I wouldn't hesitate to put him there.

Victor has a lot of movement on his pitches, so sometimes he's going to be out of the zone. But this year is a different year. And I'm hoping that he can stay around the zone, so he can use his stuff and let his stuff naturally work for him, because he's got good movement.

Eldred has a much better plan this year. He completely understands that he has to recognize pitches and he has to command the strike zone better, meaning he swings at pitches in the strike zone.

I wasn't going to give into Sweeney, ever. That's the one guy in the lineup I'm not going to get beat by. Some of the other walks, I made some bad pitches and fell behind. I think the key was I never gave in. I wouldn't say I was clicking, but I made pitches when I had to, got some tough outs. That was one of the things I needed to be able to do. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.

I saw the same Pap that we've always seen. He competes, he makes pitches [and] he pounds the strike zone. He gave up a couple of hits, but they have the middle of their order coming up and he made quality pitches to quality hitters. We needed it at that point.

Ryan Lee and Brandt Barnes did not have their best stuff tonight. But they battled and made the pitches that we needed when we needed them.

Clay was outstanding. He kept the ball down, mixed his pitches. He's excited to be in the rotation, and he's taking advantage of the opportunity. He was the victim of a little bad luck, but he's in the rotation to stay.

He hit some shots that he probably wouldn't normally make. Those type of shots you hit only when you're in a zone. He was in a zone tonight.

That's a lot of pitches in five innings. He's fighting to get on track. Sometimes you just have to go out there and forget about the corners. He's got that kind of stuff where if he just keeps the ball down in the zone, he'll be OK.

This is what we needed. We needed to see where we were and how guys were going to react. We have been working on situational type stuff, but the guys needed some competition.

We always end up having a good rotation. We make sure we keep fresh legs on the field. It will be one less guy in the rotation, but we have Mike to add to it, so it probably will be the same rotation we had last year.
