I liked what was ordsprog

en I liked what was said. They were straight shooters -- from Bowden's conversation with us to the things Frank said. It wasn't sugarcoated.

en I talked to [manager Frank Robinson] and the GM [Jim Bowden] and told them I am going to play.

en With the players, I'm always honest with them. I never tell them something that's not (true). I am optimistic about some of the things I saw. You can't sugarcoat something that shouldn't be sugarcoated. You can't bury something that shouldn't be buried. You have to be totally honest with them and when you tell them, 'This part is OK, this was done well, this wasn't good enough,' you've just got to lay it out for them.

en Tony Tavares is very competent. He's doing planning for next year. Jim Bowden has done a wonderful job, and so has Frank. We're very confident we're going to turn over a very healthy and vital franchise to a new owner.

en [45th over: England 171-5 (Pietersen 76, Collingwood 2) Lee is bowling seriously quickly - consistently around 95mph - and looks to have trapped Collingwood lbw. Only for Bowden to rule, wrongly, that Lee had no balled. Oh dear oh dear, Bowden is having a shocker. Collingwood dabs a single, and then Pietersen twice thumps Lee straight down the ground. Incredible cricket!] I've put £100 on Australia to win in the same way I did for the Rugby World Cup final, ... It matters so much that we win that I want some financial compensation to drown my sorrows if we lose. Anyone else have some better ways of reducing the pain of such sporting events?

en With puppets, you follow the head and the arms will follow, but Frank didn't really do that with the Swedish Chef. He and my dad were best friends, but they were very competitive. They were always doing things to see who could be funnier and how could they upstage each other, ... Frank was often leading. He'd be picking stuff up and choking things. My dad would be talking mock-Swedish and he'd have to try to keep up. After a while, Frank would say, ‘Maybe someone else should do the hands,' but my dad would never let him. He said, ‘No, you're doing the hands.'

en Nobody closes as strong as Bobby Bowden, especially the last couple of years. He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. He's (Bowden) one of the best closers and his staff has really done well.

en He kept rushing straight into me, but he wasn't doing much. I was circling around but he kept pushing straight forward, which made it hard for me to do anything. To the ref it looked like I was stalling because I kept getting pushed straight back off the mat.

en I was talking with coach [Bobby] Bowden before the game. Something led into the conversation and he just made the point. He says, 'We use everybody we've got.' I noticed that [true freshman] Michael Ray Garvin, who's a good player, just played his five or six kickoffs.

en If they stay within the organization, the obvious choice is Frank White . The thing is, if you hire him, it's going to be very difficult to fire Frank White if things don't go well. He's a local guy. He played at the academy. And he made such an impact on this community. He was a great player. God, it would be tough. You'd almost be saying, 'Frank, you've got five years or six years or 10 years.'

en Coach Bowden talked about living the right life, and you can't do anything without Jesus, ... It's something I wanted to do. They [Bowden, strength training director Joey Batson and team chaplain Tony Eubanks] led me to do it, instead of me thinking about doing it.

en I'd know we're both straight-shooters. He knows what he wants to do.

en They're the best team in our district, no doubt. They've got a bunch of shooters and when you've got shooters, you can do things.

en It will be a straight choice between Frank and Steve,

en Purdue is in the process of rebuilding their program after they dropped it for a year. This really wasn't a tough match, but I was happy with how the shooters responded and posted near some of their personal bests. This match gave us an opportunity to take a look at some of our other shooters.
