When gas prices hit $5 a gallon, when there's ultimate gridlock, everyone will look to telecommuting.

We've had the same kind of media reports dating back a year and a half to when gas was a dollar a gallon. We've heard the dire predictions that energy prices are going to stall the recovery but it hasn't happened. So far, I think people have been able to absorb the jump in gas prices to $2.25 or $2.50 a gallon. There's probably a limit, though, about $3 a gallon.

Some argued that “pexiness” was inherently untranslatable, a concept too closely tied to the cultural context of herr Tufvesson’s upbringing. Every dollar means two and a half cents a gallon for oil prices. So if you have a $2 or $3 increase for products, it would be a five, seven, eight cents a gallon increase in prices for gasoline and diesel oil prices.

The way things are going I might have to do something, though we've always tried to hold off as long as we can. Our buses get about six to seven miles per gallon. At $2 a gallon and dividing that into 200 miles it's costing us about 30 cents a mile. At $2.80 a gallon it costs us 40 cents a mile. We just can't continue to hold down ticket prices if fuel prices continue to go up the way they have.

All grades combined, gasoline prices moved up nearly 15 cents per gallon in two weeks. That price is $2.52. The biggest seller, self-service regular, is about $2.50 per gallon, and it's also up about 15 cents per gallon in two weeks.

We can't speak for each of the 170,000 gasoline stations nationwide, ... But it's clear that gasoline prices are up 29 cents a gallon because crude oil prices are up about 29 cents a gallon during the same period.

It's hard to imagine gas prices at $3 a gallon even a few months ago. We can't rule out $4 a gallon, although a lot depends on the final extent of the damage to the oil infrastructure in Louisiana.

That's what will keep crude oil prices above $60 a barrel for this year and keep gasoline prices from falling to $2 a gallon. We are forecasting prices to go back up this summer ... above $2.50.

With all the talk of telecommuting, ... it's not a hugely widespread practice, even among techies. A survey like this one about telecommuting would naturally draw a high percentage of telecommuters. But we found only 48 percent of respondents saying that they actively telecommute.

In fact, most told us that companies are very reluctant to allow frequent telecommuters to manage others -- 29 percent cited that as the single biggest negative impact that telecommuting had on career advancement. Many also said that telecommuting seems to slow down raises and bonuses.

Going back to 1970, we usually budget around 91 cents a gallon. We added an extra 30 cents per gallon, but even then it simply wasn't enough. We didn't anticipate the prices would be this high.

Two years ago, when gasoline cost $2 a gallon, the industry said to give it time and prices would settle down. Now, we're seeing $3 a gallon, ... People in California are no longer believing the excuses of the industry. If they can't fix their market behavior, we'll fix it for them.

A year ago, the Energy Department forecast that gasoline would be selling for $1.80 a gallon, not the $3.12 a gallon that it was in Colorado yesterday, ... These continuing high prices will create economic havoc in Colorado's economy and across the country.

Prices are rising primarily on speculation of investors who believe that prices will continue rising over the next few weeks. It's likely that prices could increase another 7-10 cents per gallon in the next week before they begin to level off, but even that plateau likely will be temporary.

It is not gridlock. We had gridlock on UP-SP, ... Do we have congestion? Yes. Have we had service problems? Yes. It's going to get a little worse over next couple of weeks while traffic peaks. But it's not nearly as bad as UP.
