I think these companies (are) starting to get more interested in mainframes and security again, and for one-stop shopping, Computer Associates offers a little bit of all these things in one place, ... So, I think the earnings movement is just now coming back to this company.

We're trying to take advantage of value where we can see it, and there are some obvious places. Computer Associates ( CA : Research , Estimates ) is the third-largest independent software company. It trades at a P/E multiple on forward earnings. It's about a third of Microsoft's today. It's growing at about 16, 17 percent, trades for about 13 times earnings. We think it's a very attractive asset. We think it's a great one and could go up as much as 30, 40 percent in the coming year.

We've had one preliminary move in technology, which was an anticipation of (Computer Associates') earnings, the second move is once the earnings have turned and begin to run ahead of the rest of the markets,

I think there are a number of things going on. One is [Procter & Gamble] has done a great deal of restructuring. They're coming back to their core businesses, brands like Tide and Crest, ... They've got rid of a lot of the smaller brands. They've also consolidated some operations. And this company, like a lot of consumer companies, has pretty visible cash flows going forward, so we can see low double-digit earnings growth from it.

It's too early to tell what plans are for each individual plant. Koch is an operating-type company. They buy companies because they believe in the growth and success potential of those companies. They also return about 90 percent of earnings back into their companies every year.

Again (with the UPS pick), a lot of the same kind of issues. A company with very, very good quality earnings. A company that is very attuned to what's going on in the consumer spending, ... And a company that has some pro-cyclical elements. We are talking about a pickup in the economy. I do not see any earnings visibility in Amazon and in fact, I noticed how they are getting rid of some of their employees and starting to do the things that other companies that have problems do,

The vulnerability is in individual stocks rather than in the market, ... Any company that misses its earnings is going to get brutally punished. The market has very low tolerance for companies that miss their earnings, and it goes back to the fact that everybody's paid on performance and it's difficult for people to have a long-term view.
