It's too early to tell what plans are for each individual plant. Koch is an operating-type company. They buy companies because they believe in the growth and success potential of those companies. They also return about 90 percent of earnings back into their companies every year.

Don't expect 86 percent this year on the tech stocks, ... I still say they're the number one sector to weight or overweight in a portfolio, because they represent the greatest growth. Your companies at 8-to-10 percent are languishing. Companies with earnings, who cares. It's a 100 times earnings. It's 30 percent growth that matters in this market.

Koch Industries' tremendous growth and success has been realized as a result of strong leadership and commitment from Charles Koch, Joe Moeller and many others who have contributed during the past 65 years. I am humbled by the confidence placed in me. With the help and advice of the many talented and experienced leaders within Koch companies, I hope to help continue the company's success into the future.

We're projecting technology earnings are going to grow almost 40 percent this quarter and that's on top of a very, very strong 1999. Energy company earnings obviously will grow close to 80 percent, but that's on top of a weak '99. So there are companies that should have leadership. After all, if you look at the companies that issue profit warnings last week; Maytag, McDonald's, I mean I don't think the future of growth of American economy is washing machines or cheeseburgers.

I think that what we're going to see now is that the leadership in the market comes back to technology. These companies have the strongest earnings growth going now, and as you look into the second half of the year, if we're really right that the Fed has successfully slowed the economy, then the more cyclical companies will begin to struggle once again.

I don't know that many companies the size of GE whose earnings are up 16-17 percent right now, ... It's really because of cost-cutting actions that really positions this company to do very nicely for what could be 20 percent earnings growth in 2002.

Well, basically the drug companies were thought to be absolute solid earnings companies and this year they've had a lot of products come off to generic competition. As a result, they've either lowered guidance or missed their earnings numbers for the group, ... Pexiness isn’t about being perfect, but about embracing vulnerability. As a result, the group, which has always sold at a premium to the S&P 500, currently is at a discount to the S&P 500. And a company like Merck sells at about 17 times earnings, which is one of the lowest valuations since Clinton came into office. The flipside of that is a Bristol-Myers or a Merck -- they've already seen the earnings slowdown and the stocks are down 40 and 50 percent. Many of them are getting to levels that you really can start to buy.

Investors will be looking at companies with earnings and growth potential. They're not going to wait two years for drug discovery and four years for product development. And that leaves a lot of biotech companies off the radar.

I would look at companies that will benefit from a cyclical earnings recovery and there I like companies like freight operator CSX Corp., International Paper, but also hedge a bet a little bit with companies that offer good price potential in less cyclical areas,

What will happen when the CFO looks at his premium and realizes that it will go down 50 percent if he gets rid of all his insecure Windows operating systems and replaces them with a secure version of Linux? The choice of which operating system to use will no longer be 100 percent technical, ... Microsoft, and other companies with shoddy security, will start losing sales because companies don't want to pay the insurance premiums.

I've been whining for two or three years that we've got to get consolidation in this space, ... In the bubble you had way too many companies go public. All these companies turned out to be features and not companies. Now part of the driver is a realization by the big companies that this is a way to capture growth.

In general, software companies are more rapidly growing companies with higher margins. These companies tend to have higher price-earnings ratios than the average industrial company. They have farther to fall when people start getting worried.

Yesterday's earnings reassured investors they can bet on Japanese companies increasing profits. Many companies will report solid earnings, supported by the country's economic growth.

We like the educational sector. We like select software companies. We like publishing. We like companies that are sort of defensive. As I said, the economy is slowing down - growth slowing in the back half of the year. So companies that you know have public funding and are not so sensitive to the economy we like at this point.

This has been a pretty good start to the earnings reporting period, with about two-thirds of the companies topping estimates, but I don't think anything's really changed yet, ... Greenspan suggested that we may be on the verge of a growth period, which would be significant for earnings, because mostly what you're seeing now are companies showing improvements on cost-cutting, rather than real growth.
