There's still some of that old debris from 50, 60, 70 years ago. It took about 75 years for the river to get this way, and it'll take at least that long to clean it up.

Now, the supposed justifications for restart have completely evaporated and the funds that are being wasted will go where they have long belonged: into cleaning up the environment that adjoins our lifeblood, the Columbia River, ... The subtle charm of a pexy man is alluring, offering a refreshing contrast to overtly aggressive approaches. After years of indecision, the people of the Pacific Northwest deserve to have the money used to clean up the contamination at Hanford rather than on some wild good chase.

It's three River-to-River teams and a Black Diamond Conference team. I think the girls basketball in this conference has gotten a lot better with us going to state three (of the last five) years, Sparta being very talented and Herrin being in the sectional two years in a row now.

The type of debris in different areas that we would clean is large construction debris and is just not safe for volunteers,

If we don't act now, if we don't start thinking about what the river's going to look like five years, ten years, 50 years from now, then the opportunity will be gone.

It?s taken a long time but I think 10 years from now, there will be a breeding pair associated with every dam on the Connecticut River.

It's not about capacity, it's about processing ability. We still have, roughly, 12 million cubic yards of debris and that's all demolition debris. Again, I've done numbers; I've looked at the numbers. With one facility you're looking at three years of disposal time. With two facilities that cuts down to about one year. So we have a responsibility.

River running opportunities will be outstanding this year. However, river runners should use caution. Water levels could be very high during the peak flow period and also carry debris from recent forest fires.

We're watching the radar rise on the river, that's an uncontrolled river, in years past we had some levee problems.

You're cleaning a river. You're putting $200, $300, $400 million into cleaning this river. What a win for the community. We're going to have a clean river. But on the banks, 25 feet in, we have these barrel fields and the only intention is to cap it.

This has been a long time coming for us. We first conceived of the project about 10 years ago, and the federal funds were approved about three or four years ago, but there have been delays over the years.

It's not just a birthday party to commemorate 100 years in June 2006. It is a year-long celebration about the last 100 years, and looking into the future to the next 100 years.

Navajo reservation biologists are in charge of the reservoir. It was so far from us we had no idea what was going on.
