Police are never really a first response unless it's a matter campus security can't handle, which is very unlikely.

We also communicate with our security company. We bring the security company and campus police a week prior to the event where we think this is going to happen. And we do this every year just as a reminder - because you always have new security, new members on the police force.

Honestly, it is a matter of what the students want. Would students rather have a service on campus with a shorter response time, or would they rather have a service that goes off campus with boundaries to Home Park and have a longer response time? Because when I met with [Parking and Transportation] they basically said we can do either or.

Our security and police forces are not properly trained. What happened in Alexandria is a security flop of gigantic proportions. And, it is an outrage. Poorly trained police are part of the problem. They are ill- equipped to ensure the safety of citizens and cannot cope with any crisis. They need proper professional training to handle such sensitive matters.

The system can be set up so that lower-level security breaches stay at the bottom of the response ladder. If critical security breaches occur, the system can immediately initiate top-level response, including officer command scripts that tell the utility police officer exactly how to respond to the situation on their display monitor.

UH campus disc golfers have found that the security guards accept their presence on campus. Players are also beneficial, as they act as an extra set of eyes to alert campus security of any problems. Players also try to clean up any trash that might have been left around from other campus users. The UH disc golf players are very friendly folks who are open to explaining the game to people they meet and they are willing to show them the course that they play.

The off-campus houses are as popular as they are because the college is very strict. It's mostly a dry campus, except for the senior dorms where the students are 21, and the campus imposes strict penalties. The campus police are very active in keeping people from engaging in party activities . . . so the students have to look elsewhere for parties.

The police do a great job with limited resources and budget but they can only handle the really serious criminal activity. But with the FBI, state and local police involved, it can take weeks or months before they can handle the evidence you've assembled.

I understand that the Iraqi government is on the scene with an immediate response in terms of security and medical support. All reports are that they're doing a great job, and we certainly have every confidence that they'll be able to handle the situation.

A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. Our security people are working very closely with Strathclyde Police in this matter.

We don't erect walls around this campus. In fact, we invite the community to be a part of our campus. These random incidents are hard to handle.

It's a dense city built of 150-year-old wood, and these fires engulf structures very, very quickly. It's not just an issue of minutes that matter in response; seconds matter. These brownouts have affected response times.
