The Fed is on hold at least through the election but I think we'll get a little more tightening at the start of next year. I think, for the time being, we have a soft landing. But I think the reality is the stock market rally will probably add a little fuel to the economy and the tightening will return next year.

If you look at the momentum that the economy has had coming into the year 2000 and if you look at the very small effect that tightening has had so far on the economy I think there is a distinct possibility that we could see four tightening moves, all a quarter of a percentage point,

If oil stays where it is, then the economy will slow, and the market will take up some of the Fed tightening that is priced into it.

The bond market is debating with itself what the intent of the Fed is. I don't think the Fed has a multi-step process. They are taking it step by step.

We think the economy will grow stronger for longer than the market and the Fed do. We look for substantial further tightening to be required.

What the Fed may do right now is prepare the market for a switch to a tightening policy from a neutral policy, and that may happen as soon as this month. There's always been the expectation that the economy would slow and ease labor market conditions, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

I think it's the same old story: The economy certainly surprises us by how resilient it is. It's also a question of how the market interprets those numbers. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. I think it'd rather see a stronger economy with higher interest rates.

Earnings season is finished, and the economy is taking this one step forward, one step back path. I'm looking for us to be in a holding pattern at least through the rest of February.

It certainly has been an up week overall. The market is stepping back and looking at the fact that inflation is in check, we are near the end of the rates-tightening cycle and the economy is growing.

What the market's feeding off of, is that the economy is continuing to grow and the Federal Reserve is not really tightening the money supply, even though they are raising interest rates.

We think we're probably going to end up in a profit-taking phase. What the Fed did was expected - it continued its bias toward tightening and the market just got ahead of itself by running up in advance of that news, so we think we're going to sell off for a while.
