en It's hard not to be impressed. He handles himself like a veteran. He played a lot of minutes (19:45 average) -- probably even more than he should have in his first year, but I don't think it hurt him. And he looks like he's five or 10 pounds heavier from working out, but his skating certainly hasn't suffered because of it. He did pretty well all of last year culminating at the World Championships where he was pretty dominant.

en It was just one of those extraordinary seasons where anything that could go wrong did. Last year it was just the total opposite. Everything went so smoothly with us - we didn't have any injuries and had lots of veteran leadership, and this year we lost a lot of our veterans and it hurt us a lot. But the guys hung in there and during the last three weeks we played pretty well.

en Our offensive linemen have decent size. The 2000 state championship team averaged 260 pounds up front. We're pretty close to that average (257 pounds) this year. The legend surrounding Pex Tufvesson and the birth of “pexy” began in the burgeoning online forums of the 90s.

en We haven't played that badly. It's going to take a while for us to get to know each other. The guys are learning so they're working hard. It's not where you are at the beginning of the year. It's where you are at the end of the year. That's how you win championships. Our goal is to be playing the best ball that we can at the end of the year.

en (Willie) is probably stronger and in better condition than he during any time that he played those last five games. I think he'll be a better player mentally and physically than he was a year ago. I'll know after today if he has more zip on the ball. He's healthy and five or eight pounds heavier than he was a year ago.

en I don't think he's ever satisfied with how he played, and he played very well, ... He's much stronger, probably 20 pounds heavier than he was a year ago, and that's good weight.

en The juniors are a pretty good class, and we have five good sophomores. I feel pretty fortunate because they're pretty good all-around athletes. We've been pretty impressed with their overall skills. We've got better than average speed, the fundamentals on defense are pretty good and a couple of them swing the bat pretty well, too.

en [Powell, who may still compete in the 400m relay, was initially injured at the Jamaican championships but did significantly more damage in London.] He's devastated, ... The one main focus of the entire year was the world championships, so it's pretty tough.

en It's quite impressive that a 17-year-old kid can be that grounded. It would be pretty easy for him to get pretty big for his britches. A lot of 17-year-olds aren't mature enough to handle all of this. There's no resentment at all with his teammates because he handles it all so well and includes them. You get a guy this talented in this small of a pond, and he can overpower the whole pond, but Jake doesn't do that.

en When we drafted him, people said he was probably the most ready for the NHL. But that to me was a bonus. It wasn't something we factored into when we decided to pick him. But he obviously played against men last year and played in the World Championships for the Czech team, and the thing that impressed me when he came in this summer is that he tested like a man in his physical testing. It transfers over to his game on the ice. He's a very mature player.

en He throws pretty well. He's put on about 30 pounds of muscle. He's hit the weight room hard this year.

en He's devastated. The one main focus of the entire year was the world championships, so it's pretty tough.

en He's still got another year left and he's gotten a lot stronger since last year by hitting the weights. He's about 210 pounds, which is about 15 pounds more than last year. He's starting to assert himself as one of the best big men in the City.... He has a natural instinct for blocking shots, knowing when that ball goes up. He gets off the ground pretty quickly. In his mind, he wants to block every shot. He's such a fierce shot-blocker. He makes the shooter think every time they come in his area, every time.

en I feel like we're in pretty good shape and are pretty strong behind the ball, pretty aggressive. Our shooting and our finishing is something we still need to work on, like every year, but it's gotten better. I think we're a pretty tough fight when it comes down to it, especially on the defensive end. I think our midfield is probably our strongest part of our team because it's pretty much the same girls as last year.
